I've seen blue whales and humpbacks from a boat, and gray whales from shore. The blues and humpbacks were in Monterey, and the grays were in Baja and Bodega bay. Cool stuff, especially the blue whales.

I've been whale watching off Vancouver Island in Canada and swimming with a pod of wild dolphins off of New Zealand - see attached photo. I've also swam with Dolphins in Cuba but they were in a reserve - not as amazing as in the wild.....

if you are a lover of Whales/Dolphins (quite likely if you are diver) I would recommend anyone to become a member of the Whale and Dolphin Conservation Society - http://www.wdcs.org/

I've been diving while a small group of Bryde's whales swam by and seen them several times at surface during a whale survey from a research vessel in Oman.

I've also snorkelled a few times with bottlenoses and spinners in the same waters.

We see whales and dolphins regularly, orca in the summer months, the best view I've had was from the supermarket carpark one day in my lunchbreak - 3 orcas, a family group taking the seals from the rocks about 10m from me ( yes I was late back to work) they hung around the bay for a few days before swimming off. Risso's dolphins like riding the bow wave between sumburgh and Fair Isle, we often see harbour porpoises all round.
A month or two back 4 white sided dolphins stranded locally, unfortunately all subsequently died .
A couple of weeks ago I was diving the Moray Firth, we must have seen 15 or 20 minke plus lots of bottlenose dolphins on one day - I have surfaced to be asked by the boat what the whales looked like underwater, as apparantly they'd gone between the bouys on the deco station, but somehow I'd missed them.

Our house is built near one of the old whaling stations, although it was demolished years ago, the kids still pick up whale bones occasionally on the shore

I've snorkeled with pilot whales in the Canary Islands as part of an Earthwatch research project. Very cool experience.

I've seen a number of different whales and dolphins while on tour boats or on other Earthwatch projects including humpback, finback, and minke whales and bottlenose, Atlantic white-sided and spotted dolphins, also harbor porpoises.

Never have been lucky enough to be on scuba and see any. Almost did while in Nova Scotia but the minke did not appear until I had exited the water. A few divers were still under and watched it. Darn thing circled the dive boat for 20 minutes or more, coming within 10 feet of the boat.

frogfish once bubbled...
I had the chance to see a dwarf minke on the GBR in Australia... See attached picture...

I also dived with the Minkes on the Ribbon Reefs off Far North Queensland - we had a mother and her baby showing off for us, getting a good look at us while we were checking them out!

Unfortunately it was the only dive I did on that trip when i left my camera on the boat (isn't it always the way!!).

Cheers
