I got a question. My wife and I want to go to Tarpon Spings and dive for sponges. Are there any charter outfits that do that or is it something that can't be done?

Narcosis dive charter (No relation) is the only boat out of Tarpon springs. I never heard of them doing sponge dives. The idea of sponge diving is interesting though. If you can get numbers for some good sponge grounds I'll provide the boat. I used to high and dry at the mouth of the Anclote river so I know those waters well.

I lived in Tarpon for a bit and still go there regularly to eat. Sponge diving is kind of the bread and butter of the locals. I don't imagine that any of them would look kindly on a sport diver to get in on their living. Now with that said, I will ask a few of the locals I know there and see what I come up with. Either way I will let you know the outcome in a couple days.

I will look into it. If I come up with something I will let you know. I think it is a pretty cool idea. It's something you don't do everyday that's for sure.

Thanks. I don't want to mess with their money. I just want to do it once to say I did. Take a couple of sponges for keepsakes.

BTW, does anybody know how to preserve sponges. I hear they go bad like fish if you don't clean and preserve them right
