WPaDiver, no, they're Creolefish. The spots on the back are a dead giveaway.
 
Thanks TC, I had actually considered creolefish but I was looking for "bright red spot at bottom of pectoral fin". I guess I was fooled by color at depth (35 ft) and distance from my flash, certainly the shape and markings fit.
 
No problem. One thing I've learned from years of teaching Vehicle ID for the Army is one distinctive feature is enough to make a positive ID. I used to show a picture of a snorkling Soviet tank, and ask what it was. The key was that the snorkel was on the turret left rear. Only a T-72 carries it there.

The spots are not found on any other critter with this pattern of body, thus giving positive ID without the other features. To be honest, I didn't know creolefish had a spot under their pectoral fins.
