A BIG SALUTE to the Baltimore Navy Reservists who were first on the scene of the horrible water taxi accident this weekend...
From the follow up story pulished today, I read that the Lt.Cmdr jumped into low 40s water with heavy rain and dark clouds in the air to retrieve a young girl floating face down. She's alive at the time of the writing of the story, at least, although she mayone of the two critically injured.
The Cmdr's crew then used their landing craft ramp to lift the taxi enough to retrieve others from underneath, most of whom are alive today becuase of their actions. So far, 21 alive, 1 dead, 3 missing.
We never know what to believe in news stories, but it goes on to say that the little water taxi was fully loaded in such horrible conditions, but no one was wearing Personal Flotation Devies - PFDs. I often wear one on dive boats headed out just because I'm a clutz, but damn - with threatenitng weather, don't wait for the warning or accident. Put it on!
Anway, it's not often a U.S.Marine brags on the peacetime Navy, but I want to commend them heartedly here! :luxhello:
Semper Fi, Swabies!! don
