I did make an attempt at a search, with no luck.

I've thought of trying one of those 90 deg elbows at the second stage and wondered if people use them really, or are they thought of to be just another failure point and not to be trusted?

I used to use one, a Zeagle 90* elbow on a 40" hose routed under my right arm, with a bungied backup. Pretty good open water configuration, though I eventually discovered I like the long hose configuration better for me (first the 5', then settled on the 7'). Is it another potential failure point? Possibly but the Zeagle version actually a much more solid design than other swivels on the market. And definitely preferable IMO to the "standard" OW rig of primary and octo. I would think if potential failure points are your overriding factor then maybe the long hose configuration might be a better option for you?

BTW, I still have my 90* elbow on a 40" hose in a box of misc. dive gear. PM me if you are interested in buying it. If so I have pics (on another computer) I could email you.

I don't use them because they are a potential failure point as well as more to service and maintain for the amount of benefit you get from them.

I may try out the 7 footer first, since I've wanted to go that route anyway. I'll let you know if I still need the elbow. Thanks!

try here, you get the benifit of the swivel without the failure point

personally, I like the 360 degree swivels on my long hose, I know it is considered a failure point, but I just find it more comfortable and the hose sits better around the neck.

The Zeagle Swivel Elbow is a better 90* swivel than the DR. More substantial, and easy to get a hose wrench on.

The 360* swivels are more comfortable, but I think they are just plain dangerous. IMO.

As always, YMMV.

I have a couple swivels on my high pressure porton on the first stages for my double setup. Things just didn't feel right so I switched to using swivels but i am cautious about checking them before each dive. I also have a swivel on my aga mask. All my swivels are oxycheq brand that I got for golem gear online. they are spendy but well worth the money if it helps clean up your setup.

when digin with doubles and stage bottles you can have so much crap on you hangine in wierd places but I found the the swivels made everything more simple but they will likely kill me sooooo.

I remember recently seeing a recall on some swivels. It was one of the most popular brand names. Does anyone has more information about it?

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, in cooperation with the firm named below, today announced a voluntary recall of the following consumer product. Consumers should stop using recalled products immediately unless otherwise instructed.
Name of product: Swivel for a Scuba Regulator

Units: About 170

Importer: Innovative Scuba Concepts Inc., of Colorado Springs, Colo.

Hazard: The swivel, which is attached to a diving regulator, could separate while diving. This will result in a complete and sudden loss of the diver?s air supply, causing the diver to engage in emergency ascent procedures. This poses a risk of decompression sickness due to rapid ascent, and air embolism or drowning if the diver panics or the emergency ascent procedure fails.

Incidents/Injuries: The firm has received one report where the swivel separated during a dive and caused the diver to ascend using the buddy breathing technique. No injury was reported.

Description: The recall involves the HO110 Swivels sold as an aftermarket regulator component.

There are no markings such as a date or production code embossed on the unit. Contact Innovative Scuba Concepts for information on where the recalled units were sold.

Sold at: Specialty retail dive stores nationwide from January 2006 through March 2007 for about $40. They also could have been installed by a dive shop regulator technician.

Manufactured in: Taiwan

Remedy: Consumers should stop using regulators with the swivel attached and contact the dive store where purchased for a refund.

Consumer Contact: For additional information, contact Innovative Scuba Concepts Inc. at ( 800 ) 472-2740 between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. CT Monday through Friday, or visit the firm?s Web site at www.innovativescuba.com

That is it. Thanks
That was quick.

I just thought it was a good place to bring this up for general information.
