Hoping for help,

Picked up my 8080 over the weekend from home (I work abroad). Clever fellow that I am, I've left the manual at home & now cannot figure out how to change the resolution. It doesn't help that this is my first OLympus camera, as I've been using a Sony DSC P-9 to now.

Anyway, all advice gratefully received. Feel free to take the Mickey about leaving the manual at home - I can take it...

Thanks,

Larry

PurpleH,

You can go about it two ways. 1) there is a shortcut button on the left side of the camera under the WB shortcut button. Push that and you can use the scroll dial to choose your resolution -or- 2) push the OK/menu button go to Pic tab and you will see the same arrow icon as one of the choices on the first screen. Go there and it will open up a screen where you cna also choose the resolution you want.

Hope that helps.

You're a star, I'll check it out when I get home.

Thanks for the help,

Larry

Sorry for the delay - everything worked fine, thanks for your help. BTW, just noticed your set-up, it's identical except that I've only got the single strobe. Any comments / observations?

I'm heading for the Philippines to try it out in two weeks & will let you know how it goes!

Thanks again,

Larry

I'm glad it worked, Larry. I find that the best lighting with little backscatter comes when I have the strobe farthest from the lens. The best position seems to be when shooting vertically with the stobe above the subject.

What also works nicely is turning the YS 25 slightly away from the subject and pointing it in the direction of my handheld reefmaster strobes. With the reefmasters pointed lsightly above the subject and not right at it, it makes for a nice lighting effect and little backscatter. This you can experiment with if you can borrow/rent an additional slave strobe to play with.

I hope that helps.

Nick

Very good tips Nick, welcome Larry, what part of the Philippines will you be diving?

Hi guys and thanks for the help.

I'm heading to Puerto Galera where I've been diving for about 10 years regularly. I used to have a Sony DSC P9, but I killed it big style. Never mind, it gaives me the excuse to upgrade to this set-up and explain it to my wife, tee hee!

Meanwhile, I'm about to try Trimix, so I bought a second hand replacement Sony on the side for US$100 on e-bay, which will go deep with me when I'm used to the changes in gear layout etc. - not too bothered if it goes the same way as the last.

For anyone trying to get the hang of basic UW photo it's a good little set-up and after 2 years' use, I think I could nearly work it blindfolded!

Thios is the first time I'll be using a slave strobe, so any comments welcome.

Thanks,

Larry

Not 'bumping' this old thread, need help again!

My 8080 died on the trip, never even got it underwater. Kicked into the bottom of a wet dive boat by a hyperactive boatman. Damn, damn, damn.

Anyway, I've only just got over my loss (which means the insurance money is coming in soon), and I'm looking to replace it - my housing is still intact, so it makes sense. But has Olympus discontinued this model?

If so I've got no real option other than to buy a complete new set-up, or to buy a used camera, with no warranty etc, which sucks.

Any advice?

They indeed have discontinued 8080. You mite still get lucky with some webshops. Most of them propably don't have it anymore but try. what about factory refurbished ones? Is it just as an used one or do you get some warranty for that? Those you definitely can still find. You could find one hanging in some small local camera shop too. They don't sell too many cameras and could've had one left lying around.
