They're probably clearing the path to make the E-300 DSLR more prominent.

It's comparable in price to the 8080 when it came out but being a DSLR you need to cnosider the cost of lenses, housings, the inability to use the screen to take shots, etc
 
Good point, it's great that they are being discontinued, hopefully the prices will go down ($599.00). Then I can get another one for a spare or to rent out.

....wonder how much the Olympus housing for the E-300 will be...supposedly it will be released next month
 
I emailed Olympus to confirm the 8080 was discontinued, which they did. They also said there was not a replacement as yet. It does seem they are trying to phase out the cameras on the cusp between compact and dSLRs. Which is ok up to a point but the cost of dSLR housings way exceeds the housing cost for 8080s etc. Ah, well, back to the drawing board.
