8" dome question

I have recently purchased a 8" dome port and have a simple question. My older 8" dome port had a backing plate that was made from delrin ?? The new 8" dome seems to have a backing plate made from Aluminum??? I was wondering when this change in production was made and why?

We ran into difficulty obtaining enough acceptable material to continue producing the delrin dome base plates. We decided to move to aluminum to ensure greater consistency.
