There are several 6 V handheld flashlights that use those big, square 6 V batteries ( I think technicaly they are called springtop lantern batteries), but I've never seen one for diving. Is there such a thing? Those batteries are cheap and huge, they seem like they would be perfect for this application. Any thoughts?

How is being "huge" a good thing when diving?
There are way too many crappy dive lights out there as it is... don't give anybody an idea.

I have one of the "lantern style battery" dive lights. It pretty much stinks as the battery does not have long burn time for amount of light it produces. It reminds me of the cheap D cell lights that you have in a junk drawer of your home. Ya know, the ones with the acid leaking out of the battery.

When I purchased the lantern battery for my light I always thought "How long has this battery been sitting on the shelf? I don't know many applications that use the lantern battery so it must be sitting here a long time and probably can't wait to go dead after an hour!”

Go with rechargeable for the convenience.
