Two great after work dives. In on first dive just before high tide. 2nd dive just at dusk, just after slack/end of high tide.

Awesome bioluminescence activity.. When turned off lights, awesome light show. Lots of big huge bugs in some of traps.

Water still nippy at depth 45 ish. Great vis.

Must do more after work dives there during high tide.

Saw big stripped bass.

Sounds like you had fun. I don't think the water temp increases at depth that much anytime during the year. How was the rock climb ? It takes a while but if you look hard enough you can find a good way down the rocks. Also how was the vis.

Definately ached the following AM. (Admission getting old) I'm of the school of suit up at car and hike down w/ gear vs. schlepping gear down and suiting up near entry point. Would be nice to have enterprising youth be dive sherpa to carry empty tank up and bring fresh tank down for me. It's really not bad hiking down with year as long as careful. One slip, sand on bottom of booties could cause serious fall/ankle sprain. Even more challenging climbing up at night with dive light. Not for weak/timid or someone severly out of shape.

As for vis, was nice. I'm bad judge at measuring vis. I go by Awesome, nice and crappy vis. Would say 30 feet? (Can see lobster pot bouy from 30 feet under clearly)

It's better than usual as we haven't had storms, high winds last few days.

Still by far my most favorite shore dive site on Cape Ann. Parking easy, ok entry exit as long as calm/ high tide. Would never attempt during low tide. too slippery getting in and out.

for those hunting bugs.. It seems to be a favorite place for environmental police to check divers for shorts. (and also police divers for not having Flags!)

Folks I have a questions about Cathedral Rocks can you folks straighten me out?

Is that the site where you park and have to walk like a half mile + through some hiking trails past an old rock quarry (now filled with fresh water, is it called quarry lake or something) then down some rocks before you get to the site?

I'm from the south shore and took a drive up to check out some sites (I guess you'd call it "site seeing") late last fall and it looked like a great dive but a total drag hiking down to the entry point. Were I was was what appeared to be the northern most part of the Rockport/Gloucester peninsula

If this isnt called Cathedral Rock, does anyone know what's the name of this site?

thanks all,
scubastu

I think you are referring to Halibut point.

Cat Rocks is behind the Emmerson inn S. of Halibut point

You do bring up a point.. I wonder if anyone has ever attempted to dive the quarry. (Gear rinser!)
