Hi,

Went out for a dive today and my freshly charged batteries only lasted for about 10min :11: Not happy Jan! The batteries are not old and have only been charged a handful of times. Does anyone have any experience with a 5050 draining batteries quickly. Normally I can get two dives easily out of these batteries. Also I had the strobe on today, but that wouldn't drain the battery of the 5050 would it.

Thanks,
mel :)

No, the strobe wouldn't matter. Yes, I've had it happen before.

Turns out it wasn't the 5050 at all. It was the batteries.

- one dead or dying battery will kill the performance of all four, so check each one.
- check your charger: ensure all eight contact points (in a four battery charger) are actually touching); check they are inserted properly; check for a switch to charge 2 or 4...this is what happened to me. It was set for 2 batteries only...didn't even realise it had a switch.

Test on land with a completely different set of batteries, preferably charged from a different charger. If it still happens you may have a camera problem.

It is very unlikely this is a camera problem, if it was the camera it would be getting very hot as the energy would have to go somewhere. Most likely you got a bad set of batteries or have a bad charger. Try a different set of batteries and a different charger until you find the problem. And like alcina said, it may have been as simple as one or more of the cells did not get a good charge for some reason.

Yeah, I'd have to agree with the above..
When I first got recharges I got the SunPak Batterys... worthless after the 4th or 5th recharge... 10min into the dive, camera acted funny... finally figured out it was the batteries...
Here's a page that rates them.

Just get the MaHa and their rechargers and eliminate that problem.. heheh.. so you go on to the next one eh??

Hope that helps..

Yup, same here. The batteries that originally came with the camera fizzled out pretty quick. I changed the batteries and the charger and now everything is good again :D

For your next dive try a new set.

Good Luck,
Lisa
