Anyone hear anything about the 2 divers who had problems on Vancouver Island this last week. I heard sketchy reports about one death ?

So far all I have heard, from someone who knew the victim was 2 divers were diving around 140fsw off Tofino last weekend. They were diving nitrox (mix unknown). After the dive they reported seeing a large colony of cloud sponge at depth so they returned with a camera to photograph them. The dive was short duration but during ascent the victim was seen ascending very quickly. The other diver made a safe ascent and found the victim at the surface apparently not breathing.

The media reported the diver had the bends but I don't believe it is correct.

My condolences to the family.
This weekend also saw the death of the son of someone I know who was cliff diving at Thetis Lake near Victoria.
When I heard about that one it made me wonder when I had last hugged my kids.
