I don't think the 17-85 offers the macro capabilities like the Sigma 17-70 does? Whatever you decide make sure there is a port to fit your chosen lens.

The Sigma 17-70 is a very popular underwater lens so a little searching will hopefully find more examples, if that's what you're looking for.

I have both the Canon 17-85 and Sigma 17-70. Maximum magnification ofthe 17-85 is 1:5 and 1:2.3 is the maximum for the 17-70. Therefore the Sigma 17-70 has more than twice the magnification of the Canon 17-85. A lot of reviews rate the Sigma 17-70 better than the Canon 17-85 optically as well. Guess which one of my two lenses get used all the time and which one sits on the shelf?
