While diving off private property in Hull (w/ permission) I caught this nice lobster. I assumed it was too big, but my buddy made me gauge it and it just small enough by a hair. We caught 10 others (with several in the 2lb range) - it looks to be a good season. My buddy also recovered this small, old anchor on the same dive.

Please Note: I usually don't keep big bugs, they don't taste all that great and they do alot the reproducing, but I was going to a party/BBQ that evening so I had to break my own rule.

I went out yesterday and got scallops but never saw any legal bugs off Salem.

B.T.W. ...Do you have any pictures of the the other side of the bug?

No, but she's not an egger though, or a V-notch, but, she is a she that's for sure. Again, I don't make a habit of taking these big guys, but this was a special occassion.

A tip to the wise, while EPO guys are common sight on the NS, in past years they have been rare on the SS. On the dive before this one, they walked right up on us as were getting out the water (we had 3 bugs). Once they saw that we were squared the guy was very nice and chatted with us for a while, but I would not have wanted to have been doing aything illegal. So, please play by the rules on the SS or risk a big fine and them taking your gear and car.truck.

I have had buddies with mask still on stopped by the EP's to check their bag. People are crazy to risk boat, gear, fines, etc. if they break the rules.

How did the lobster taste? I heard it can be done such that they taste good and tender but requires some skills. I have not been on a lobster dive yet this year but plan to go soon.

I was out Sat and Sun in Salem - Gloucester. Sat diving the Poling with AWESOME vis. Yesterday was just a pleasure boat to Cocktail Cove with friends. How was the shore vis this weekend?

Hi Matt, the vis wasn't that great on Saturday down here, although it was workable. I'll bet the Poling was nice, I haven't been on her since last fall.

That lobster was OK (I still like the chicks the best) - the tail of the big guy was smoked (on a grill with a smoker) and the claws were sautated. I would not have wanted to try to boil it.

Personally, the best big lobster tail I've had was steamed in an oven until the flesh released from the shell, then sliced into medallion steaks and grilled with butter.
