Texas A&M University at Galveston is home to The Gulf Research Institute for Highly Migratory Species. Also know as GRiHMS, they study migration pathways and drivers of movement for coastal (cobia, dolphinfish, tarpon) and offshore (billfishes, tunas, sharks, wahoo) migratory fishes.
For our January meeting, we will be joined by Dr. Michelle Zapp Sluis from GRiHMS who will give us an overview of exactly what GRiHMS does and then dive a little deeper into the work they do specifically related to the Flower Gardens Banks. It will be an interesting look at how migration impacts one of our favorite diving sites and vice versa.
She'll be joining us in person. You're welcome to come hear it with other CHUMmers at Jake's Sports Bar (2944 Chimney Rock Rd) or log in from the comfort of your own home.
Start time is 7:30 pm Everyone's welcome!
