In August, CHUM dives into the amazing and intriguing worlds of mangroves and seagrasses. They're important and often overlooked marine ecosystems providing habitat for a very wide variety of marine life, especially juveniles, and offering unique sightings for intrepid divers. Get details about this and more as we are joined by Texas' own Melissa Gaskill. Originally from Houston and now Austin-based, Melissa is a science journalist and avid diver who covers wildlife, oceans, ocean life, and environmental issues. With a zoology degree from Texas A&M (College Station) and a master’s in journalism from The University of Texas, her work has appeared in Scuba Diving Magazine, Alert Diver, Men’s Journal, Scientific American, Texas Parks & Wildlife Magazine and many other publications.
Accompanying her presentation will be related photos by professional wildlife photographer Brandon Cole. In addition, Melissa will have two of her books for sale - A Worldwide Travel Guide to Sea Turtles and Pandas to Penguins: Ethical Encounters with Animals at Risk for $20 each (check or cash only please).
