How do you choose between a Halcyon Eclipse 30lbs MC or 40 lbs MC. What will be the lift difference for an average (weight) recreational diver for normal recreational use.

Personally, I'd go for the Halcyon backplate but with the 33lbs DIR Zone wing (which is also cheaper).

Quite happy with my Eclipse #30. Have used it with 15L steel tank and a 7mm wetsuit. No problem.

I will go Halcyon Eclipse 30lbs MC aluminium plate

I'm importing it from Singapore - Silent Explorers for 1110 Singapore Dollar + 50 dollar Shipping + 15 % custom duty at India. As I have no experience yet on Bp/W I prefer to buy a complete package, Al backplate, 30 lbs wings secure harness, Single tank adapter and storage pak which this system offers. Please also suggest if I should choose a SS or Al back plate.

Thanks Jason, El and Barny . Now I can make the purchase. In India I don't have the option of buying any item related to diving so have to be careful when ordering stuff from abroad

What kind of exposure suit and tanks are you using? How much lead do you carry?

I dive with 3mm full wet suit and single AL 80 tanks and normally need 5 kgs of weight on the belt with scubapro Tone BCD.
They advantage i consider shifting to BP/W are:-
1. Less weight on my weight belt
2. Better trim
3. Less clutter than Jacket type BCDs

A steel BP will take 6 pounds off of your belt.

Aluminium if you're going to travel, otherwise I'd take steel.

As the price of Al and SS Back plate are same I should consider SS, 6 lbs = approx 3 kgs. So I would be needing only one 2kg block on my belt. That sounds great. I have to ask silent explorers about the difference in shipping cost. Thanks again for the advice.
