3 Missing in deep dive incident - Mexico

Last night the International Association of Dive Rescue Specialists (International Association of Dive Rescue Specialists) was requested to assist in the rescue/recovery of three divers missing in a cave in Mexico. The call for assistance was referred to Neal Watson since the IADRS does not specialize in "cave" rescue/recovery; the International Underwater Cave Rescue and Recovery Team does.

I have scanned news sources this morning and I am unable to locate anything online. Does anyone know any of the pertinent details?

The search continues for 3 people who disappeared during an advanced course sponsored by the Uzueta Diving Company in which 20 people were participating near the Arcs of Mismaloya at a site called Fascione del Diablo. Missing are Sergio Lopez, a cameraman & reporter for the Televisa company, Ulises Sanchez Mayorga and Alexander Tovar Garcia, according to Pinto German, Assistant director of Evaluation and Pursuit of Civil defense of the State. Esteban Calderón, life-guard of Vallarta Port, was given first aid and transferred to a hyperbaric chamber after suffering decompression sickness. According to the investigations, the 20 people organized themselves in four groups of five to receive the diving instruction. They lost the guideline in the current. Yesterday, 80 people participated in the search, supported by a helicopter, elements of Civil defense, Naval Zone, Technological Institute of the Sea, expert divers of different companies and the Federal Commission of Electricity. Boats swept about 30 miles of coastline.

I don't see where people are gathering it was a cave dive. Both articles said they were holding on to a 10KG weighted line (doesn't ring cave dive to me), said they were taking advanced training (doesn't say cave dive), 20 people in four groups of 5 (probably not cave training), swept away in the current (would be flow in a cave, but could be an expected editorial mistake) and lastly they searched 30 miles of coastline (there isn't a coastling in a cave).

Sounds like something similar to AOW training going on and 3 people lost their hold on an anchor line or some type of preplaced guidline for holding their place in the current. Don't know for sure, but that is what both the articles say to me. I don't see cave dive anywhere or even a hint towards cave dive.

Regardless of they type of diving though, I hope they find them all safe.

Outside = outside of the water or if you prefer, the surface, or the boat. They are all outside.

What kind of anchor do you bring in a cave???
