Hi

First,

Wendy it is not good to spread rumors, the incident you are refferring which was about 4-5 years ago nobody was killed in there hotel room neither were they travelling alone, i will not get into the situation of that as it is long gone but will say that Ambergris Caye is very safe and there are many many single travellers women included that travel to ambergris on a regualar basis and have no problems at all.

Isolated incidents happen everywhere common sense should prevail wherever you travel.

Onto this ladys request.

This is our MO meaning we specifically cater to new divers and offer personal service on many occasions you will only be diving with a couple of others depending on time of year, of course holidays are busier.

We are a small operation and only take 6-8 divers per boat (2 boats max) and spend our time making sure our divers get to the best sites without having to get back to take out the next bunch of divers like many of the shops in town have to.
This means you get plenty of bottom time and dive site selection without time contraints.

The one negative i may see for a single traveller is we are about 10 minutes north of town so it may be a little too quiet for you but if thats not a problem I can assure you of a personal dive experience with few people and a DM who will take very good care of you.

Best regards

Gaz Cooper

P.S when you say pampering if you mean 5 star amenities and hotel standards you will not find them in Belize, Belize has only one 5* hotel and that is thousands per night.
Belize is not cancun it is a developing country that has challenges for many people.
If you require 5* hotels etc I am afraid belize is not for you its a great place but many years away form offering the amenities of the likes of Cancun etc but then again thats the beauty of the place.

First, who is the necton pilot.. second -- is there a stigma associated with handholding between a dm and a diver. can you elucidate on that for me lol ..

Pampered, catered to, hand holding by a divemaster at anytime you so desire.

Maybe the Nekton Pilot in November...possibly the 13th.

No slight was meant. I was quite serious in what I said. The crew will go out of their way to ensure you have the best experience possible based on your needs and desires. If you are a very experienced diver and want to be left to your own devices (within reason), that is what you will get. Conversely, if you are a new diver and would like a DM to guide you on each and every dive then that is exactly what you will recieve.

Although I would not consider the boat to be plush, it is very comfortable. I found (having discovered liveaboards this year myself) that this was the most comfortable and fun way to travel for a diver.

Shoot a personal message to "MB", he and his wife were aboard the Pilots sister ship with me in July.

There are a few other liveaboards that can meet your needs in the area beside nekton, take a look at the aggressorfleet.com or peter hughes, they both are on par with nekton and travel to the atolls and the Blue Hole. If you want to stay on land I would have to agree with Dandy Don but this will not get you to the atolls expect the Blue Hole or the Elbow and if the timing is right Glovers reef.

So, here's my story - the abridged version... I took a resort scuba class in cancun a couple of years ago. Then in april went back to the same dm who took fantastic care of me.. got my cert. out on the reefs and then went to some cinotes -BEAUTIFUL. best experience EVER. This DM was so awesome that it was always just he and I.. I've never dived with a group, and never with a buddy that wasn't a dive master. I am only 2 dives past my cert. I have no pals to dive with, but I adore the sport. I have vacation coming up in nov. and want to spend it diving... I thought Belize would be great considering. you know best diving in the western hemispher they say. So here are my issuses - Not only am I totally uncertain that this is the place for a solo traveler to go - but am subsequently at a loss for hotel. (I'm used to pampering. - sorry but it's the truth). I also would love to find a dive shop to give me that personal attention and care that I need when it comes to diving..being inexperienced - but interested giving the comfort - on going on all sorts of dives. And would hate to miss the Atolls and the blue hole... (weather permitting) . I woud very much appreciate any advice. . Xtine - nyc

the best way to see Belize is on a livaboard you cover more dive area. I have been on the Peter Hughes boat and the Aggressor. These are the cadillacs of a diving vacation. I have never had anyone wait on me so much and making sure I was comfortable. A warm towel shoved in your face after diving to warm cookies or brownies after the dive on the sun deck. http://hamanasi.com/ http://www.peterhughes.com/

If you want to pampered on land try this resort http://hamanasi.com/ never been there but heard it was very nice.

Sorry I apologize for my misinformation. Although I did state that this girl was not travelig alone, the only part I got wrong was the death. And I did say I traveled to Belize and had no problem. But again I am sorry and was not trying to spread rumors, just warning to be safe and take precautions, which I think anyone, male or female, should do.

Have a look at Ramons Village. Very nice bungalows, and one of the better looking dive operations on the island and I am sure you can find a tanned musclebound DM to hold your hand and pamper you.

There is nothing wrong with holding hands underwater

If you want to be pampered diving on Ambergris Caye I'll be very glad to look after you. Don's dived with us (Protech) and has been kind enough to make complimentary noises (such as above!). We actually specialise in diving in small groups and in individual tuition. I'll send you info if you want (please give me an email address). But as Don says, Amigos is also very good, and nearer to Aquamarine Suites if you end up staying there. Not that I want you to go to Amigos, of course.....

Incidentally, can you or anyone else tell me what constitutes the "western hemisphere"? I know the "northern", but where does "east" meet "west"?

Hello, fellow NYC diver. I may suggest that you might want to check out Nekton Cruises if you are really looking for an excellent dive experience. Myself and a few othe DM's are planning a trip as we speak for 3/12 - 3/19 2005 ..

I would strongly recommend a Dive trip like this. You will see everything imaginable and can do 0 - 5 dives a day..

Good food too.. Dont know much about the pampering, but hey, Im kinda cute...
