We made our fourth trip to CocoView Resort on Roatan in July 2010. As with our trip last year, we flew direct from Atlanta to Roatan on Delta and were on-site by noon and in the water by mid-afternoon.

I won’t go into too many details about this trip – the resort operation hasn’t changed much since our last trip so interested readers can see trip reports from 2009 and 2008. The one thing to note is that the resort is under new management this year and the managers are making various improvements to the property such as new bathroom flooring in the guest rooms, new shower heads on the showers by the gear lockers, new countertops on the buffet line, etc. Also, the quality of the food seemed to be much better this year than last year.

The one major memorable event of this trip was my camera flooding on Tuesday morning. I had mounted my wide angle lens and taken photos on the first dive and then the housing flooded when the camera was placed in the rinse tank on the boat. I was using my Ikelite housing that has a bayonet mount port system for the wide-angle dome port that doesn’t lock in place. When we returned home, we learned that Ikelite had created a fix for this problem (a locking mechanism for $6) that would have prevented the problem. My camera (Canon 40D) was ruined as was the lens – a very unhappy and expensive accident.

Despite losing my camera, we had an enjoyable trip and will return to CCV again next May.
