my friend and i chartered the rags II for a 10 day "around mindoro" trip leaving puerto galera april 12, returning april 22. there are (were) 8 divers on this trip in 4 cabins - 2 cancelled (2 berths in one cabin). the vacancies are about to be posted on the rags II web site Philippines Diving liveaboard - Cave - Wreck - Technical Diving. but here is a scubaboard heads up.
because we chose to do a 10 day (8 diving days) instead of an 8 or 9 day charter, we will also dive the rarely visited tablas strait. we plan to reprovision in boracay and take shore leave there. depending on consensus and time, we may also choose to visit romblon as well. other than that, this is a 4 dive per day trip, giant stride off, and pick up directly back on the rags II. on the way back we devote 2 full days to apo reef.
the price is $240 usd per diving day, or $1,920 (if you were previously a guest of the rags II you are entitled to a 5% discount). this is a smoking deal and the price is all inclusive - diving, meals, soft drinks, water, beer, nitrox. there are no hidden or additional expenses whatsoever, but there will be a $25 fuel surcharge if the price of oil remains between $75 and $100 per barrel. therapeutic massage (yes there is a masseuse on board!) gear rental (if required), and the apo reef marine park fees paid directly to the rangers are not part of this all inclusive price.
this is a real purpose built dive boat. meals are individually prepared, not slop out of buffet warmers. the cabins are individually air conditioned. there is 24 hour electricity, and a back up genset. the water maker ensures plenty of fresh water for showers between dives and at the end of the day. there are separate clean, fresh water rinse tanks for your camera gear, computers, masks, and other delicates. the crew is second to none, and the dive captain, ralph joerger, is on top of his game.
as for the dudes, we are 1 female and the rest male, all very experienced. if you are interested, please be social, laid back and easy going, able to go with the flow, less than a heavy drinker, and experienced enough to be ready to dive right in with a minimum aow and nitrox certifications.
