Here in Egypt, the maximum depth for recreational diving is 30m, unless you have deep diver (40m) or tec training. It's par of the reason the cards exist, after all.

Actually the maximum depth limit is 40m, it was even on the CDWS test in 2009.
Don't forget PADI certifies Advanced to 30m. This is not the same for all agencies.
BSAC sports diver is 35m
CMAS 3 star: 40m

My bad - you are indeed correct (And I know it's 40 metres) - I tend to get stuck with the 30m limit since the bulk of our customers are not CMAS 3* or BSAC divers, the 30m limit sort of gets stuck to by default...!

The original point stands though - some dive centres will not allow you to dive beyond 30m without an appropriate certification - however that is obtained. In the case of a PADI certified diver, they would ask for a Deep Spec card...

Thanks for the correction

Cheers

C.

It may be handy to carry the AOW as well. Due to a change in PADI standards it is possible to be a Rescue Diver without ever having done a 'deep' dive, so there is a possibility that a Rescue card may not be seen as a 30m/100ft licence.

The chances of this happening are very slim, but there's always going to be one that crops up.

The new standards are thus; you can be a PADI 'Adventure' diver: who's has completed the Navigation dive, may enroll on a Rescue diver course. As the Deep & Nav dives are only compulsory on the 'Advanced' course.
you cannot be certified as padi rescue until you have completed your advance training which includes deep dive adventure dive
correct me if im wrong,crowley
have fun

The deep "adventure" dive for AOW is 100'. You don't need deep specialty (130') for rescue.

Sorry, I'm right.
2010 Instructor Manual pg24 Summary Of Key Standards
New Standards are now that you only have to be PADI Adventure, with the Navigation dive complete.

You don't get to Master Instructor by being wrong on standards :crafty:

wowser!!!!
dont even have to be advanced for rescue????
how 'bout divemaster?
no deep dive required?
thanks wart!

you need AOW for DM, and there is now a search & recovery and deep dives requirements for certification. Don't have the handout infront of me from the recent members forum...

If it is a boat/charter I don't know, I just bring my AOW card. (or Nitrox if they pump it.)

sorry to hijack
but thanks for bringing me up to date!
i knew about the s and recov for dm but i guess i didnt catch the adventure diver
instead of advanced diver for rescue!

ha, when in Dahab it was widely advertised that the recreational maximum depth was 30m but other divers and the dive shop i was with.

here it is in black and white stating otherwise.
