Last night we had a great group attend Spearfishing Specialties - Rick Holmunds spearfishing seminar at Dixie Sands in Orlando. There was an even mix of experienced spearos, occasional shooters and divers looking to get into the sport. We had about 30 total that filled the shop.
Rick did a great job explaining all type of guns from pneumatics, Riffes, Billers, SS, and others and explaining that no one type of gun will cover every type of diving. Several of us brought our own guns so we could see how they were rigged and get some new ideas. He also covered shot placement and backed it up with videos from Fishkilla productions which were a highlight of the evening with people smiling and yelling at each stone shot into the fish head.
Mike at Dixie Sands had shot a couple of groupers over the weekend and deep fried them in a great beer batter. There was so much, everyone was stuffed and there was still some left over. That was some of the best fresh fish I have had! There was 2 coolers filled to the top with free beer and drinks, and I cooked up about 8 lobster tails, chunked and chilled for appetizers.
At the end of the night the shop raffled off a free set of Atomic Split fins and a brand new 3mm Pinnacle wetsuit!
Dixie Sands also arranged for a 3 tank spearing trip to West Palm this Saturday and the weather is looking glass flat for it.
This was again a great seminar by Rick and nice to see a shop really dedicated to spearos and supporting our sport. Thanks to Rick and all the people at Dixie Sands!!
