Hi, I have always wanted to scuba dive, just one of those things i somehow never managed to do. Now i am 41 and its time to get it done. I have done the snuba-dive stuff, where your tank is on a kayak type device floating above you and you can only go down like 25 feet. Done that several times in the caribbean, no issues. Never took a real scuba class though. I will be on a cruise ship and have never been too impressed with the ship sponsored excursions. ave had better luck doing my own thing. So, any tips on a place where i can get started at? I will be there within 10 days or so. If anyone have a shops name or website, i would appreciate it.

If you are going to be on island only for 1 day,as I seem to read your post, I think you are talking about "Discover Scuba" not a full blown scuba certification course.

You are probably better off doing Discover Scuba with the ships provider due to time constraints.

If you are talking about doing a scuba certification course it can't be done in one day.

1 day only , i guess i will look into the ships discover scuba deal, i just hate their Cattle Car approach to stuff, getting grouped with a bunch of people, i was hoping to be with maybe 5-6 divers

If you are serious about it being time to learn to dive, go to a local dive shop and get your certification there. That way you can enjoy the limited time you have on island to dive instead of spending it demonstrating dive skills.

If you do a Discover Scuba, the in-water ratio will be small, perhaps as high as 8 divers, depending on agency. A Discover Scuba is just that, trying it out. My wife did hers off a cruise ship many years ago and there were 4 divers with one instructor.

Most dive shops here in Grand Cayman are PADI affiliated. PADI limits the ratio of students to instructors to 4:1 for Discover Scuba Diving courses so you shouldn't ever be in a large group for this course.
