Official news - Lammer Law will be taking over Alta's permit to dive Darwin + Wolf and for the time being will be running all dive trips originally scheduled aboard Alta. A beautiful 95ft trimaran, well known in Galapagos diving circles, she accommodates max 16 in spacious cabins with private bathrooms. All cabins can be double or twin berths. Nitrox compressor, top guides and crew with years of experience in Galapagos. Rates are staying @ $3550 pp and we have dates from July thru November. Due to some late cancelations we have special discounted rate of $2900 pp for our departures Aug 14-21and Aug 21-28. If anyone needs to see patente then don't hesitate to contact me. Best, Dom

I received word from Quasar that the Alta is now owned by the insurance company (and apparently sank where she was), and the Lammer Law isn't being put back in service. See e-mail, below (dated 6/14/10):

Thank you for your email. Unfortunately we have had to suspend our dive trips for the time being. The Alta ran aground and the insurance company involved did not act quickly to remover her and simply left her there for the sea to reclaim her. Our dive vessel, the Lammer Law, has been docked in the Ecuadorian port city of Guayaquil for the past year. In the past the Lammer Law has been our number 1 dive boat. As we began to take steps to prepare her for service for this dive season we were told by the Ecuadorian authorities that we must now provide an environmental impact study before receiving approval to bring the Lammer Law back into service in the Galapagos National Park. This completely took Quasar by surprise because the Lammer Law had operated in the Galapagos for many years. In the last few years we went through the same process with our vintage luxury yacht the Grace and realized that based on the hurdles created by this new request it will not be possible for the Lammer Law to return to the Galapagos in time to carry our her season. Quasar could proceed to complete the dry dock of the yacht only to have the yacht held up indefinitely on the mainland by paperwork. Because this is exactly what happened with the Grace, Quasar’s board has decided not to proceed with the Lammer Law. I am very sorry for this news.

Sincerely, Paul Schicke

Very sad news - the Alta was one of the most beautiful yachts in the world and it is a great loss to her owners and to Galapagos diving as a whole. We also got this news of Lammer Law - which threw a wrench in the works as we have several full boat charters booked on her. However for some weeks we have been researching alternative options and now have many people booked on Deep Blue, Galapagos Sky (Ex-Sky Dancer), Humboldt Explorer and Aggressors. If anyone has been caught up in this and still finds themselves looking for space in Galapagos this season, feel welcome to contact me or check availability on our website - DIVE ADVICE TRAVEL - Welcome to Dive Advice Travel - we are doing what we can to ensure that people can still salvage something out of this sad loss and dive Galapagos as planned.
