Air hog - need advice pls

Thanks all - very helpful. Some of this stuff i do -i always try to stay above the group so as to be more shallow and use less air. However, i will definitely keep an eye on my trim (i think it's ok - i usally poke around reefs with my arms folded in front or grasped behind my back, but who...

Air hog - need advice pls

I admit it - i'm a huge air hog. i don't understand why, and i am looking for any tips out there as to how to fix this. not only is being the first one up embarassing and unsafe (usually i am just down for about 25 minutes and really push the limits of the air gauge), but i risk missing the...

    gas under pressure

ok-- that makes sense. but that's for a full tank right? so if you were down to, say, 10 psi on your tank (lets say it was nearly empty and you were doing decompression stops), you could be no deeper than 22 ft, or it would be like breathing through the bamboo tube -- is that right? thanks

    gas under pressure

That's great -- thanks. so how much pressure is in a scuba tank -- ie, at what depth would the pressure of the compressed air equal the pressure of the water?

    gas under pressure

Sorry these are stupid questions but i need some clarifcation about how gases work under pressure (been reading Cousteau). let me give a few examples: 1) let's say i'm 60 ft underwater and i'm breathing through a bamboo tube that goes vertically to an opening at the surface (a la James Bond)...

    Why do Advanced Open Water?

Thanks for all your feedback. Most of my dives have been international, so i don't even have a good log book. Only in the US, as many have pointed out, does one run up against the insurance issue to such a large extent (and therefore double the price for a day of diving). it would be great...

    Why do Advanced Open Water?

Given that the classroom portion of the AOW is only 2-3 hours at best, what is really learned on this certification that you couldn't practice on any dive? In addition, apparently there is some talk about only being able to go to, say, 60 ft on an open water cert, but deeper on an AOW. Is...

Oxygen toxicity and air diving depth records

Thanks. interesting -- i had no idea the tables were that conservative. i thought my head would spontaneously explode if i went below the nitrox MODs :). In addition, i always thought oxygen tox (either type) was very insidious, and you may not know you are getting it until too late. But as...

Oxygen toxicity and air diving depth records

Hello -- something has been driving me crazy for some time and so i hope someone can answer this. My instructors (c-card, nitrox, etc) have always been very clear about the dangers of oxygen toxicity, and that compared to DCS or narcosis, it's far worse because you don't recover by just...
