    Interest in Madison Blue

Have you ever driven 1 - 2 hours - your dive buddy also drives 1-2 hours - only to be turned away because either the head count or the team count has been reached? Even calling ahead does not really help as things may change soon after the ranger tells you its wide open - "right now". So then...

Importance of SAC rate in figuring 1/3rds

I'm trying wrap my brain around figuring 1/3rds and just what to do with dissimilar SAC rates . Dissimilar tanks are covered in most cave diving manuals and workbooks but I've not found the discussion of dissimilar SAC rates. Does this enter the equasion of when to turn the dive ???

Computer says ...10' Deco Stop 3 minutes?

As a matter of fact..."most" cave divers do use computers. Many use two.

Computer says ...10' Deco Stop 3 minutes?

I recently completed a dive with max depth about 105' with most of the dive ranging between 85' and 100'. I was diving with 2 computers - a Tusa IQ-800 and an older Oceanic Data Plus. The Tusa put me in Deco while I was still in a comfortable range on the Oceanic. Both computers on SF-0. My...

    Help purchasing a tank.

Many dive shops now also rent tanks with DIN valves. The rental of a tank is not that much when you consider that the biggest part of the rental is the gas. Also consider that when you buy you will have to maintain the hydro and the vis inspections. That said , I understand the desire (and the...

Changing BC pull dump to elbo

I'd like to change the pull dump on my standard vest type bc to an elbo and at the same time shorten the legnth of the corrogated hose and the corresponding bc lp inflator hose...this would shorten everything up ...of course I'd still have two over pressure valves on the bc. Any opinions???

Pull dump or non exhaust elbo

Are pull dumps considered a potential failure point? If so, how do you exhaust - lower dump or power inflator dump- and where do you normally keep your left hand during a dive?

long hose + bungeed octo for rec diving

Far too many divers heading off to their LDS buying a BP and wing , ditching their computer consoles and attaching a SPG and putting one or two computers on their wrists, wrapping a 7' hose , bungeeing the octo , looking in the mirror thinking " I look like a 2008 tech diver... I must be one".

long hose + bungeed octo for rec diving

My opinion is that the 7' hose is obviously appropriate in an overhead environment such as caves but an unnecessary additional piece of gear in recreational open water . You will be diving with buddies that are not trained in its use or its deployment and I could see more of a potential hazard...

Trek Wing for single tank diving

I have and love my Trek Wing for doubles diving (steel LP85's). I'm 6'2" and the wing works fine for me although all my diving friends seem to think they need a Classic. I have tried on a couple of occasions to use the Trek for single tank diving and on both occasions was unhappy. It seemed that...

How often do you clear your mask?

I also tend to clear my mask several times during a dive. I've had dive friends suggest that some divers tend to be "nose breathers" and they need to clear more often.....????

    More to it than fashion?

I'm not so sure that an armload of gauges (sometimes two armloads) is more streamlined than a compact analog spg/computer console.

    More to it than fashion?

I think that there are too many lemmings headed off to the pool with very little thought into the why and too much thought into the fashion.

    More to it than fashion?

Virtually every cave diver I see (those with back mount doubles) has one or two wrist computers and an analog spg usually clipped on a left side d ring. Why do I never see a computer/spg console ? Seems that the console has the benefit of everything in one place and possibly leaving nothing on...

    Led vs HID

Illumination V.S. Penetration...I think focusable HID's have the edge when in reduced vis. It seems LED's light up everything( including the cloudiness) whereas HID"s penetrate thru better.

    Why do divers quit?

The certified divers I know that aren't currently diving say they've "stopped" (for probably all of the reasons listed so far) not "quit". .. and at least in their heads intend to dive again - someday . I was first certified in 1965 and throughout my adult life were many long periods of not...
