    Unhappy Earth Day

That is very sad. It sounds like the coral recovered better on GC than LC, and that surprises me.

Calico Jacks - anything like it?

Honestly, setting up like that at Cemetery Beach has been my go-to for a while, now. When conditions allow it a snorkel out to the coral heads and fingers was a really nice break, too. Beer and cold patties on the beach were a treat

Calico Jacks - anything like it?

I didn't. We had some odd weather this winter and the winds were often pretty strong out of the North and North West - the days when I wasn't sick with the chest cold that was going around on island, or had non-diving company, the weather didn't make the north side available. A few people said...

Calico Jacks - anything like it?

I usually either go out with Brad (Cayman University Divers) or Nat (InDepth Watersports). Went out once with Living the Dream out of George Town because they had an afternoon boat and it was ok, but felt more "commercial" than the ones we usually go with.

You will find that Sunset Point development (between Coconut Bay and Cracked Conch) to be quite the eyesore, believe me! Work was still going on with it last week, and they are nowhere near finished - you will be hearing the noise from your unit, and it starts early in the morning and they work...

Grand Cayman - Looking for small group/boutique dive operator.

As you see there are tons of great options, and everyone has their faves. Sometimes it's best to look at what will give you the shortest drive to your boat. If you are staying southern SMB, then something down in George Town, if northern SMB or West Bay then someone who goes off West Bay Dock...

Grand Cayman - Looking for small group/boutique dive operator.

I like Cayman University Divers and InDepth Watersports - they definitely fit your requirements. They tend to both depart from the West Bay Dock. Brad (CUD) and Nat (InDepth) are both great people who have been on the island for a long while.

Cayman - Picture of the Day

I wonder if I could get a Fish ID on this one - seen at the Spanish Anchor dive site (West Side). Initial thoughts were Lizardfish but I am leaning more toward it being a Sand Diver, due to the black spot above the gill cover. Thoughts?

Shore Diving East Side (Grand Cayman)

Hmm, maybe I am missing something then, because when I am in Bodden Town I look out and see the barrier about 50 yards off shore - presumably the mini wall is further out than that - on the west side (at Macabuca, for example) the mini wall is about 20 yards out. Where do you go in Bodden Town...

Exactly this. As I understand it, Nat Robb bought it from Craig

I actually dove with him on the boat in my early days diving with Divetech. He struck out on his own and bought the name (and I think boat) of a dive company called InDepth Watersports that at the time was based on the Brac. There is a movie called Cayman Went that is super-cheesy but actually...

Just a quick update - I did a shore dive off Turtle Reef today. InDepth have their operation working with tanks (even Nitrox), rental gear and the like. The setup area isn't as big as it used to be, but that's just temporary. The storm really damaged the hardpan in the shallows - it looks...

Where do you see that? I never knew it as that, and their website calls it the "Grand Cayman Marriott Resort".

The Marriot beach loss has been in place for several years. This isn't a recent development. Even if they get a temporary beach, the regular weather patterns are going to wash it away.

Already mentioned on another thread, but Indepth Watersports have said that on Saturday they will resume operations at Macabuca/Turtle Reef, even though neither Macabuca nor Cracked Conch will be open. This is great news. I saw that he had a LOT of help to clear out his stuff and evaluate his...

    Best Shore Dives

Things are looking a lot calmer on Northwest Point this morning - it's still a bit sporty for diving, but the forecast is for calming winds and them moving to come from the East, so it's encouraging. I, too, was happy to hear that Nat at Indepth Watersports is reopening at Turtle Reef/Macabuca...

    Best Shore Dives

I started a thread about it. Turtle Reef/Macabuca is out right now, too, due to damage. The forecast is that it continues to calm down and the wind is changing to the north-east and east, which should make conditions decent. Then it's about finding which shore dive site actually has tanks and...
