Welcome to the club of hasty decision making divers !!!;)
I did the identical thing. AFTER I bought my hoseless AI computer I realised that my 1st stage had only one high pressure port - so back to the dive shop to get one with two HP ports so that I could have the redundant SPG.
And now I...
The other reasons for not using a wireless AI might be sound, but I have always been a little wary of saying that they are unreliable.
I have used mine for more than 40 dives now and except for a lost link for a few seconds a couple of times during safety stops (probably because my hand went...
This is not intended as sarcasm or criticism. It is a genuine question.
What are the parameters that you would take into consideration if you want to dive in such a situation? What if a deco need arose? What if there was a problem in the water that prolongs the dive time - say an entanglement...
Thanks TheRedHead.
I am wondering if I have not been clear. As much as I don't want to mention DIR here, I am not left with much alternative.
I am aware of DIR preferences and recommendations and intend following them in both letter and spirit when I take the class.
What I wanted to know was if...
RedHead please read the posts thoroughly before you comment. See post #7. Did I state that I don't want to follow the rules? I do want to follow them!! So I am buying a completely new set of DIR compliant equipment.
AND I DID NOT MENTION DIR AT ALL. Ron asked a question because he had read and...
I have already downloaded a lot of notes and material about DIR Ron. That was the reason that I asked this question. I bought this BCD BEFORE I had read in detail about DIR equipment requirements. At the time that I bought the BCD, I had some vague idea of using it when I got into technical...
Thanks Perrone. I understand that air consumption will increase with drag. I was curious to know whether it is significant in terms of practical recreational diving - for example, I move very slowly in the water seeing the sights as I go and am in no hurry. In such a situation will drag have a...
That post "Prejucice about GUE and DIR" has its uses after all !!! Redhead I did not even need to click on the link to know what you were referring to. Lamont's "#95" will remain indelible in my memory whenever the long hose question comes up.
I read a lot of references to streamlining whenever there are equipment questions usually in relation to hoses and Jacket vs BP/Wings.
Why is streamlining so important? I can understand streamlining for say, car racing or flying where speed and fuel consumption are critical issues. But is it...
There seem to be for and against views on using a bungeed dual bladder BCD. I genuinely want to know objective reasons for both views (without starting a brawl if possible). Before someone asks why I want to know, I have already bought one because i got it at a good price.
Yes, Mer actually I learnt that on the Board when I searched for something. I think it was held in March 2006. I missed that and anyway that was when I started diving.
I responded to the post and got a response a few days back saying that a session is going to be held in February 2007. I have...
Excellent rules. Is it your contention that only DIR meets these rules?
Speak for yourself. I can and do restow it the way I have been taught to by my certifying agency and instructor all the time and the holder I use is not "stupid". I guess this is the attitude that is being spoken about here.
One of my favourite quotations though I didn't know that it was Socrates. The second phrase of the quote is the title of an Isaac Asimov book.
Absolutely Bob you hit it:
Here are some definitions of prejudice:
Prejudice is a negative or hostile attitude toward a person or group formed...
Not relevant.
The topic is 'Why there is a prejudice against DIR". The answer is consistent with the question. Probably if you asked why there is a prejudice against solo diving someone might say that one of the reasons is the existence of that rule in the solo diving forum.
As an answer to why there is a prejudice I think he stated reasons. Reasons for a prejudice need not necessarily be right. That is why it is called a prejudice. He states that the rules in the DIR forum are a reson for the prejudice.
His answer is his opinion of the "reasons" for the prejudice...
Thanks everybody for the help.
Ron, I bought that DVD a couple of months back and watch it regularly.
Data, thanks for that movie link. Amazing. If that is DIR diving that is what I want !!!
