Failed my Day 1 PADI Pool Training

(only read the OP) I feel like you had quite high expectations of yourself. You studied the books, passed the exams with better scores than anyone else, have previous (dry) experience, you're a pilot, you passed all the medical tests... And then it turned out you weren't perfect under the...

    Interesting Temporary Buoyancy Issue

If you have a buddy in that group not minding a few extra pounds, you could ask them to give it to you and take it back to experiment. I personally always carry extra weight, being the dive leader most of the time, so I'd be happy to help you out in that and I'm sure countless of divers would do...

    Interesting Temporary Buoyancy Issue

It's 50 degrees here as well. Celcius, that is ;) I've seen people take a single weight extra to help them descent and leave it at the anchor line. Though if you do a drift dive, that might not be a solution.

    Folded Knees

Quite painful indeed, probably unknowingly arching my back due to my natural body shape.

    Interesting Temporary Buoyancy Issue

Let some water in the wetsuit once you are in the water, from the neck. It makes any air escape out of your suit. You can also stay vertical, but head up, and use the dumpvalve on the shoulder rather than the inflator hose to deflate the bcd. And exhaaaaaleeeee... Take your time.

    Folded Knees

When I dive backmount, I sometimes feel a strain in my lower back during a dive. It's because my back is naturally pretty hollow and staying perfectly horizontal instead of ''sea horsing'' through the water makes my back hurt. What helps, is ever so often, while in horizontal position, I bring...

Ascending to a lost boat - what should you do?

SMB and a noisy device like a whistle or one of those loud things you can attach to your inflator hose. I usually dive in places where multiple boats wait for divers, so we either ask them to find our boat or we board their boat. They either bring us back to ours or let us hang out and have some...

    Another stupid bungee question...

I usually dive DIN on both, depending on which of my BM regs I use (I have a few) but I always hold an allen key handy to remove the adapter.

    Another stupid bungee question...

Yep, I have the top attachment and I use occasionally when I find the bungees a hassle. Luckily my full equipment is my own, just the tanks are rental

    Another stupid bungee question...

That'd mean having to change the entire valve out, yeah? I use rental tanks, don't always use them at the same center so that would be a bit of a hassle... Would be ideal if there was some sort of screw on attachment or something, if that hasn't been made yet I hereby put copyright on the idea ;)

    Another stupid bungee question...

Here I am again, lol. I hope I'm not boring you guys and I reckon I've made quite of you facepalm by now. I see all of you pro's dive with sidemount-specific cylinders who have a little extra metal on the valve to loop your bungees around. Unfortunately I dive with 2 regular backmount tanks...

Backrolling off a boat, negative entry

Helpful tips guys, thanks a lot. I might get to practice it on Friday, will keep you posted

    Bungees or para cord?

Thanks guys! I changed my lower bolt snap cord to paracord and it's much more comfortable, also keeps the cylinders in place better when the tanks get lighter and start to float a bit more with air consumption.

What I learned when I lost my camera

Looks good, it's one of those things that happens to all of us once and then never again ;)

    Bungees or para cord?

Thanks for your responses guys. tI'm aware that during a dive it's not necessary to clip the tank necks to the D-rings on the harness, but I personally prefer it in addition to the regular bungees. Ive seen many divers use bungee cord instead of paracord to attach the lower part of the tank...

What I learned when I lost my camera

A guy I met on a liveaboard lost his gopro during a dive, as he didn't attach it to his BCD and it had a floatie attached... All his honeymoon photos were still on the SD card. On the last day, the divemaster of another ship joined us aboard and brought the camera back. So on one hand, a...

    Painting fins

White paint marker works well. You could also engrave them, or use (duct)tape and write over it with permanent marker.

    Bungees or para cord?

Hi divers, What do you prefer to attach your bolt snaps to, to attach your cilinders to your harness. Bungee or paracord? I feel like bungee could snap any moment if the tanks are heavy but also feel like the elasticity makes it easier to blindly attach the cilinders...

    Packing for Live Aboard

Bring a rope/line to hang your equipment from on the last day so you can let it dry properly after rinsing it, before stuffing it back into your suitcase. Also bring something like a colorful hair clip or elastic to mark your towel as yours, if the company provides them. Those tiny travel...

    Weight preference, hips or back

Sidemount, I dive without weights in salt water Backmount, I prefer integrated weights rather than a belt but if I have to dive with a belt my weights are on my hipbones rather than on my sides or my back.
