At what age did you switch to the rebreather? (From OC)

25-30 for me, still a baby ccr diver at 29. I realized I'd get the most financial benefit the sooner I'm on the loop. Sure it's pricey, but it beats the expensive helium bills I'd become accustomed to. That made it easier to justify socking away as much as I could to save up.

Making the leap: help choosing first rb

Same. Then add in "no interest in caves." Yet here I am looking for a cave class next year.

    Where to start?

I was recently certified on the choptima with DiveTucson and had a great experience, I wouldn't hesitate to recommend training with them if you decide to go the Choptima route. It is my first CCR and I am still a complete and total noob, but what sold me was the portability. Although I have...

    Been busy diving

Not nearly the same, but my hamstrings tend to get tight very easily especially after a day of diving. Massage works great, but when I'm away for longer I always take my theragun with me now to hit those trigger points. It was more than worth it to ease the tightness, not sure if it would have...

Suggestion for a BP/W setup that can carry me for the future

There's no reason to have two. It would be more convenient, but it takes all of 5 minutes to swap from doubles to single, or single to doubles. It would be convenient to have two different setups, but not enough to justify the money. I'm not a GUE diver, but from the looks I'd imagine any of...

My (lengthy) Review of my Helitrox Deco CCR Course on the Choptima

I left happy enough to be researching easiest ways to get to San Carlos from Houston :D

Best way to familiarize yourself with a new computer.

Start with the owner's manual. I know, boring, but it will have a lot of helpful and useful information. Supplement with youtube, if you can for your given model. Then look at diving at a pool if you'd rather work with gear, rather than in an open water situation. I'm sure a LDS with a pool...

My (lengthy) Review of my Helitrox Deco CCR Course on the Choptima

I need to play with it some to see if I can get it tuned just right. Thanks for the heads up!

My (lengthy) Review of my Helitrox Deco CCR Course on the Choptima

Day 4 in the water, despite ports being closed the skies were clear and blue so we headed to Cenote Azul Haa. This was the day when a lot seemed to really start clicking for me. I could tell now that I was a bit negative, a comment Ben made to me on day 2. Getting used to the buoyancy of the...

My (lengthy) Review of my Helitrox Deco CCR Course on the Choptima

I know that no one here knows who I am, but I'm hoping to be a bit more active poster now. I joined ScubaBoard in March of this year as I was getting interested in rebreather diving. This meant I became a pretty heavy lurker, reading as much as I can while I saved those pretty pennies for my...

Which 5 Star Resort is best for families with children?

I've stayed at both the Park Hyatt and the St Regis. Most resorts will do a beach dive on the house reef for your acclimation dive before taking anyone out on a boat. The St Regis was absolutely stunning, but as far as a dive op goes I wouldn't recommend it. When we were there (July 2019), the...

    Howdy from Houston

Always happy to share any advice I can give. I love the Maldives, and have been lucky to have been twice (third time got cancelled due to COVID). Definitely recommend it, but now I have to convince my wife why I want to go to Chuuk instead! That's a bit harder sell!

    Howdy from Houston

Long time lurker, new time poster. Finally figured I'd sign up and be a bit more of a participant. I am lucky to be employed as the editor in chief of a travel blog (don't worry, I won't be spammy or posting it here) who tends to find myself always ending up at a beach location to do some great...
