We did this in my cmas * (ow) pool sessions and swapped gear with other students, not to learn the amazing party trick but to get more comfortable with our gear, more understanding to how things worked under water (buoyancy, trim, adjusting weights, straps etc) and so on.
If they where reliable you would not need multiple systems to make sure they are working and backing them up when they fail.

The galvanic cells is one of the weakest points of modern rebreathers. The whole reason for voting algorithms, multiple cells, extra calibration etc is that the cells are not reliable

Poisedons standpoint is that you cant guarantee that an "dirty" reg gets 100 % o² clean after cleaning it, therefore they have their new o² regs.
