    Roatan in January?

If diving is your focus for this trip, you might look into diving with operators who can also arrange diving on the south side when storms roll in from the north. I‘ve been going to Roatan in early January for several years. Trips usually last two to three weeks and there’s generally at least...

    Diving Colombia on Caribbean Side?

Checking to see if anyone has experience diving coastal Colombia on the Caribbean side. My wife found a Marriott resort in Marta (northeast of Cartagena) that looks interesting but we have no knowledge of the area and whether there's dive operators close to that hotel (on Playa Dormida). I...

Battery Life for Suunto Tank Pod?

Bought a D5 and Tank Pod three years ago and have since put 131 dives on the setup. Dive times range from 29 to 75 minutes and an average of 51 minutes. Tank Pod manual states: "Battery level information is displayed only if the battery is low. The indication shown when pairing the Suunto...

Dive shops in the middle keys?

Thanks for the dive shop recommendations. Will run with those and see what I can cobble together. Would be good to dive the Thunderbolt and Busch again since I've not seen those in almost a decade.

Dive shops in the middle keys?

Will be on Cudjoe Key next Saturday (5/22) for about a week. Closest shop to the house my group is renting is Looe Key Dive Center which has a limited dive itinerary, that is all "reef dives" are out to Looe. That would be fine if I've not already dived that area two dozen+ times (off friend's...

St Croix dive shops on north side with boats?

Thanks all for the suggestions. I went with Nep2une this time around. Great group of folks and dive masters pretty much left me alone after the first couple of tanks.

St Croix dive shops on north side with boats?

Thanks all for the replies. Nep2une's web site makes no mention running boats out of Salt River, which appears to be a bit closer to the resort than Frederiksted.

St Croix dive shops on north side with boats?

Heading down to St. Croix late next week for eight diving days and will be my first time to dive there. The closest shop to the resort (Marriott Carambola) doesn't have a boat and informed me of the surface entry/150+ yard kicks getting to the wall. My preference is to hook up with a shop...

How to replace scubapro go fin strap

Figured out an easy way to get the strap pin out in a few seconds. Get two small flathead screwdrivers and push both blades towards the pin split while pushing down slightly. Pin will pop out enough to pull out on the other side with needle nose pliers. Photo shows where to place one of the...

Difficulty Opening Bauer P2 Filter Assembly

A diving buddy of mine has a Jr. 2 that he converted to electric after upgrading to a larger boat. We've struggled with the same issue over the years and decided one year not to tighten the canister top all the way own. Once the top is screwed down and makes contact with the O ring we get it...

    Compact SMB Rig w/Finger Reel?

I don't yet use a drysuit so oral inflation it is. A previous poster mentioned Piranah Dive Mfg. out of Florida so gave them some business. They had a self-contained reel that looks easier to use than a finger reel so bought one of those as well.

    Compact SMB Rig w/Finger Reel?

Thanks for all the replies. Looked at the Halcyon model and haven't used an oral inflating type before. My experience is only with the open bottom types and learned early on the line and reel management technique must be perfect. Will get an oral inflating model and give a try during my...

    Compact SMB Rig w/Finger Reel?

Looking for a compact SMB with an open bottom for use with a finger reel. I have an old SMB with only a short oral inflator and use it on high current dives when there’s a risk of missing the anchor/buoy line. It’s compact and works fine for surface deployment but not underwater. I prefer one...

New to site & working on master diver

Things are mostly business as usual here. Bars and nightclubs over at Patong Beach are reportedly closed now but that’s not my scene anyway. Flight home via Doha on 26 March is still scheduled, so hopefully no travel issues back to the US.

New to site & working on master diver

Currently in Phuket Thailand and found an instructor who taught the PADI self-reliant specialty course through Local Dive Thailand over on the east side of the island. Got the course done yesterday and learned how to mount/use a pony bottle on my BC and calculate air usage (SAC), among other...

    Southern Thailand Diving Recommendations?

Looking to do a live aboard third week in March 2020, tentatively out to the Similan Islands. A DM I know in Honduras recommended Sea Bees and their web site checks off most of the boxes. My wife doesn't dive so she'll be onshore while I'm on the boat. Her preference is to be at a "beachy...

    Trip timing advice Bonaire

I've been there in mid-May. Wind was still blowing and no rain but viz was quite good on the south side and west end. It got milkier the further east we dove but still acceptable. Entries weren't much of an issue. Dive beaches were mostly deserted at that time.

New to site & working on master diver

Thanks for the welcomes and advice. Got back from Roatan a couple of weeks ago and did the PADI wreck and digital underwater photography courses so need only one more specialty course for the MSD. Learned much from the two courses but the photography course gave the best bank for the buck...

New to site & working on master diver

Is Hog/Deep 6 a dive shop, and if so, where is it? I'm open to taking a reg repair class but need to find out where in my area its offered. I can travel down to Texas and elsewhere to take the course if necessary.

New to site & working on master diver

I should have finished the MSD years ago while the curriculum would present a challenge. The rescue diver course I took earlier this year did just that. I had really sadistic instructors who pushed me physically and mentally and I thanked them for doing so.
