Computer decision - buy or don't buy

My vote is yes, it's always good to have gear with which you are familiar and comfortable - especially life support gear.

    Worth pursuing AOW?

My vote is yes, especially if you have little to no experience with deep or night dives.

Skills to practice in shallow water

We sometimes dive the Comal River here in Central Texas. It averages about 2m deep, which means the drift dive is absolutely wonderful buoyancy practice (especially with dry suits). If you pop up there, you can only get hit by a tuber.

Need new place to stay in Coz- input wanted

I've only been diving Coz twice. We stayed both times at the Aldora Villa and absolutely loved it.

Scared of DCS after 1st dive

I agree it's more likely to be vertigo or just your body adjusting to a new experience. Take it slow, relax, and if there's something you don't like don't be afraid to say so.

    Planning First Trip to Catalina

My wife and I dove Monterey Bay a few years ago. We were in drysuits in the 48F / 9C water, including the DM tour guide, but he refused to wear gloves. He used the thermos of hot water to warm his hands between dives. If you're diving off CA in a wetsuit, I highly recommend you get some 5mm...

    Planning First Trip to Catalina

I was supposed to be diving there tomorrow, but there was a family emergency which cancelled my trip. We'll re-plan for the future, though.

    Places to Dive in Dallas

If you have a full day, about 3 hours south of Dallas is Stillhouse Hollow Lake. It's the 2nd best lake (after Travis) to dive in Texas for visibility and things to see. There's a dive shop on the lake at the marina, entry is free (if you say you're going to the marina), and there's a SCUBA...

Diving the Comal River in New Braunfels on December 29th and/or 30th

My favorite Comal dive story is skimming along the bottom when a tuber above me dropped his beer can before opening it (I guess leaning over to the cooler tube). I grabbed the beer and lifted it back out of the water next to him. The reaction of him and his friends was hilarious. Of course...

    Cozumel shortage of Lionfish

A couple months ago we snuck around to El Islote where the DM found 3 lionfish. We saw none on the west side the rest of the week.

Do you download your dive computer data?

I'm fairly OCD about mine, and my wife ignores hers, so I have to keep it to myself.

Do you download your dive computer data?

I use a spreadsheet as well. That way I can calculate my SAC (used in blackwater diving).

Do you download your dive computer data?

I used to with my Luna, but when I switched to Windows 10 it quit working :(

Will be new diver in Austin area

I work for a competitor, so I can't DM for your class. However, I'm friends with some of their instructors and sure they'll take care of you. I can answer questions about Lake Travis and happy to dive with you once you're certified. I think it's a great place to learn, because if you can dive...

Will be new diver in Austin area

I am a Divemaster (DM) here in Austin and willing to dive with different people or just explain the different sites. Who are you doing the OW with?

    Cozumel’s diving is so “rushed”

I've felt that at dive ops around the world, so I don't think it's a Cozumel thing. I have felt that way on some Coz dives; I'm on vacation and want to take my time while the shop/op is on a schedule and tends to want to push (save money on labor, fuel, etc.). It's a natural and unavoidable...
