Recently moved from Dripping Springs area down to the south side of Canyon Lake (more Spring Branch). Anyone gone diving there lately? Any other places close that are more worthwhile? Haven't gotten wet in a bit and I have a couple weeks off. Low viz doesn't bug me, as long as it's...
Great points. I've always been bad at it but if I tell her she should do it, she'll get excited. I can just imagine the smile that will come from thinking she gets to start a binder. Teachers... weird people. She's pretty awesome though. I question her taste in men (I've met her husband)...
Thank you. That's the information I needed. If she enjoys it, she's the type of person who will excel because she can't stand to not be great at the things she does. Just gotta get over the hump (and we have a pool we can use for practice drills to make sure she keeps with it between...
Exactly. She's an animal lover and an athlete but she's not excited about all the gear. Throwing her in some muck (or the frigid waters* where I learned) would work against me. Good visibility and warm water with someone she trusts with her (even if only at the surface) gives me my best odds...
I actually thought about that but I appreciate the point. It would definitely be something I'd discuss before hand. I just know that one of the ways I can actually get her to do it is to go with her. Even if it was just a boat trip out where I did a fun dive and she did a skills/checkout...
The 10 month old makes anything like that impossible. I'm _hoping_ to be able to squeeze a dive day into the trip to Florida but it's not a vacation so I'm may be SOL regardless.
My wife insists that father's day is an important thing and won't let me skip it so I told her I wanted her to get certified. The trouble is, we're land locked (Austin... ish) and the lakes are pretty murky and we have a 10 month old. I'd rather her do the open water dives some place where she...
After getting certified and doing my first dive trip, I came back hungry for more. Chatted with some people at my LDS and going with a BP/W was recommended pretty strongly. Absolutely the right decision. Just gave that rig to a buddy because it's bulkier than I'd want not and I'm pretty much...
The tg-4 (and I think the tg-5) has a depth sensor. I don't know if it overlays any of the data like the paralenz but it definitely let me know when I was nearing the operational limit.
Then you're right. They should change their tag line to something more correct. Maybe "Worlds first 4k action camera built specifically for divers" would be more appropriate.
All of those have the condition that I mentioned (except Liquid Vision): they need a housing to go more than 50-60'. I'm not sure about the Intova. I've never seen it but it looks like it's still just a camera with a housing (correct me if I'm wrong). So I think their claim holds. It's a...
@kelemvor
Out of curiosity, who else makes an action camera specifically for diving? There are a number of cameras that'll do 50-60' but I haven't seen any that'll go deeper without a housing. I've blown a GoPro housing at 100' and had them basically tell me to shove it, even though I...
Got my kickstarter paralenz yesterday. I've already hit a bug:
Was playing with shooting 2.7k video @ 60FPS (i think) and couldn't stop recording. Had to hold the power button for a while to get it to power off.
For fun, I connected my laptop to the wireless and scanned the ports. For the...

Selling my ~3 year old Cobalt 2. I replaced the battery in early 2015 and upgraded the firmware a couple weeks ago. Comes with the following:
Red face plate installed
Original black face plate
Wall plug
Two power/usb adapters (USB port broke off of one so...
Caveat: I'm going to be selling mine but only because I have been doing a lot of sidemount and having a console style computer just doesn't make sense.
I've had two problems with mine:
1. Bad battery
2. Wonky firmware update
Both issues were corrected and in both circumstances RonR was a...
