    Aeris Brand Longevity

An Aeris shop I deal with had been promised that they could have Oceanic or Hollis once they decided to move forward. A year later they wanted to add Hollis and were told that wouldn't happen after a competitive shop, over 20 miles away, complained about it. One more year later, they were told...

Rescue diver certification as a medical doctor: EFR needed?

CPR is, to be fair, only a component of the EFR course. While I am sure a Medical Doctor (or Nurse, or Paramedic) has received training above and beyond that of an EFR course, we live in a litigious society and sometimes it comes down to having a box checked. That said, I am nearly certain...

HP Tanks - What's the point?

So, lots of interesting input here. For me it is kind of simple. It's a tank, does it supply me enough breathing material to do what I wish? If not, there are two solutions: 1. get a bigger tank 2. jam more in it one is a question of money, two is a question of capability and legality. Some...

Can I add a balanced fitting to an unbalanced P-valve?

What the balancing device does is allow the catheter tube to equalize with the internal pressure of the DrySuit. For that to happen, however, you need to add a device and a "Y" which also adds additional failure possibilities. For my part, I find it easier to open the valve from time to time...

    NACD Instructor standards violation

Regardless of what the law allows, it is clear that Michael would prefer to honor the intent of the agreement. Certainly his right.

DIN/Yoke cylinder compatible medical O2 regulator

I have found over the years that I ended up with multiple solutions for multiple situations and that drove me nuts. About ten years ago I built a do anything kit, pulling out the appropriate connections for that day: With this kit, I can use my Deco bottles one day, swap out a couple of parts...

The Difference Between LP and HP

Bugged me so I tool a minute to look it up today!! DoT 49 CFR 180.20.c.4 States: For a specification 3, 3A, 3AA, 3AL, 3AX, 3AXX, 3B, 3BN, or 3T cylinder filled with gases in other than Division 2.2, from the first requalification due on or after December 31, 2003, the burst pressure of a CG-1...

    Zeagle regs

So, installed 10 of them and I will say I am observing a snappier response and less chatter in the second. Sadly, these are all perspective. Historically, with a Zeagle reg, I could easily get the second stage down to 1.0 or .9 with the fires stage at 145/3000psi. Using the new atomic seats...

Sensorcon CO Meter: Quick Review and Questions

Knowing that the test gas was calibrated for .5lpm, I simply bought an orifice from McMasterCarr preset for .5 lpm and installed it inline. Works fine. Calibration can be purchased from Cal Gas, 17 L for $32 US and a .5 lpm regulator for $110. I have two of the sensors, one at each fill...

Incident due to battery change on dive computer

John, While I agree in context, the question is, what is the required time? In the dark ages, when a normal OW course was divided into 20 hours class and 20 hours pool, we did 2 hours of one night just running tables for a single dive followed by 6-8 dives of homework, before doing...

The Difference Between LP and HP

The only X's available new, that I am aware of, are the X7-65. The information I have rec'd from Worthington, directly, is that steel tanks are off the board for now, but hey, anyone can say anything.

Incident due to battery change on dive computer

FWIW, assuming I read the data right, both MultiDeco and DecoPlanner would have called this a Deco Dive on Air (Buhlmann 16B, 20/85)

New dive computer for Divemaster internship

To be fair, the incident was not due to a battery change, it was due to improper setting on the part of the diver. A battery failure led to human error. For those with the accumen to comprehend and practice deco planning manually, this could have been avoided. For the vast majority, however a...

Lake Rawlings/ New name Lake Phoenix

Don't know if I'd call it nicer than Fantasy Lake. In my experience, it's about the same, now with a longer ride and higher fee. Who knows, maybe they'll have policies that make since now, however.

Advantage of living in NC, we have personal communications with DAN once a month, more often for pros who teach. ---------- Post added April 7th, 2015 at 08:55 PM ---------- BTW, push Dr Pollock hard enough, he'll tell you which computers he is using and why.

The Difference Between LP and HP

Might want to read that again. They suggest doubling them in order to avoid and accidental failure. You will find that they still can burst. If I remember properly, this method was adopted in keeping with the actual law. It only says you need an appropriate disk, it says nothing about how many.
