I've said it before on here, I'd rather dive with clubs (group of people, elected officials ect.) than a LDS 'club' any day and I hope to see more clubs spring up in the future.
Walked in to my LDS recently, turns out they don't sell finger spools.
At 20-30 ft it's fine but around 150ft your getting into seriously dangerous territory, I wish I could talk about the science with confidence but I don't really understand the mechanics, something to do with at 50 odd meters the lungs take on alot more blood than they normally would protecting...
I still really really like the inflation/deflation system (no I don't own a hub, they still use the inflator on newer models).
Any one using a reg necklace with a standard sized hose.
Get yourself a copy of 'deco for divers' should seriously be compulsory OW reading. As the others have said and having read Powel's book I can't see the mechanism.
Did it with a mate at 10m, we had both talked about if before hand and both ascended safely together.
Not advised but we are only now getting old enough to recognise our own mortality!
Combined with getting more experience slowing down that ascent is also a good idea.
Some people report that nitrox helps, the science isn't in but the theory does make sense and Mark Powel in his book 'deco for diver' does touch on it but only for about 2 sentences from memory.
OOA situation, diver uses buddies secondary, computer being highly 'intelligent' interprets this as the diver deciding to kick the bucket and inflates the BCD. Although the device is fitted with an override the stressed diver may simply forget to hit the button. A minor incident has just become...
On a side not I rekon this thread should be stickied and any new jacket V BP/W threads are just merged into it.
Again I don't really understand the pockets argument, I've never seen a jacket with useful pockets as they are usually restricted by the bladder and integrated weights.
On the pockets front, on my jacket (one of the Mares sports) I always found the pockets became redundant once I'd inflated the BCD as I couldn't access anything because of the pressure pushing against the pockets coupled with the integrated weights taking up space. No such issue with my...
I haven't been this confused since someone told me the story of Schrodinger's cat.
If you can't explain a product to a bunch of enthusiastic diver on here how are you going to market it?
I'd agree Transpacs are tacticool, it also reminds me I've been wanting to order the harness!
That purchase will be based entirely on "it looks cool" I don't really think there's anything wrong with that provided we are honest and upfront about why we are buying a piece of kit.
I've never seen this happen and I can't really wrap my head around the mechanics.
Let's all be brutally honest, jackets sell better because you can make them look 'tacticool' and command more money for them as a result. It's hard selling a piece of metal, a tube and a strap. Far easier to sell...
You need a a tank, two breathy things, one gauge, a cheapo computer that's about two technological steps from being an abacus, an inflatable tube and some straps to tie it all together, a mask and some 'feet enhancing' devices to make your feet bigger. Without the second neoprene skin to keep...
