Where did you solo dive today?

My wife dives in a drysuit on our warm water dive trips...84 deg F and she's just fine in her drysuit. LOL!

    Supporting and Sponsoring Member Issues

Thanks! Got the refund, and I believe I cancelled the "Supporter" recurring charge. Now it should only be the "Sponsor" charge that comes up every June. ;-)

    Supporting and Sponsoring Member Issues

Hey @The Chairman, sorry for the bother, but there is definitely a problem with my "donations." I have just paid (today) for a Scubaboard Sponsorhip ($99.95) because my "color" was gone and it appeared as though my sponsorship had expired. However, not only did I pay my annual dues for...

Fast Moving Coral Disease Alert on Bonaire

FWIW, I just got back from a week of diving in Bonaire (my fourth trip) and I thought it was pretty awful, relatively speaking. The corals were bleached, although it was better at the end of the week than when we started, but there were a lot of areas where the corals were brown and lifeless...

Question Looking for Dive Shops in Greece, Croatia, Montenegro & Turkey

I spent some time diving in Croatia (2018) and would highly recommend it. The wrecks and stuff to see are mostly a bit deeper than "traditional" diving, but still great sites to see. I was on a boat with Vranjak Diving for a few days, and then we switched to land-based diving with Trogir...

    Upgrade from RX100ii to A6X00?

FWIW, I shoot the a6500 in a Nauticam housing with a pair of INON Z-330s and love it. For macro, I use the Sony 90mm macro lens with the associated ports, and for wide angle I use the 16-50mm lens with the Nauticam WWL-1. It's quite a nice setup and I've had a lot of successful photo shoots...

Question Downsizing from FF to either a6600 or RX100 VII

Funny, I've been considering the opposite. I've been shooting a Sony a6500 in a Nauticam housing with two Z330 strobes, and the 16-50 kit lens plus WWL-1 for wide angle, and the Sony 90mm macro lens (and it's associated port and port adapter) for macro (I also have the CMC-2 that I used before...

    Wakatobi info please

Yes, specifically Wakatobi Dive Resort (www.wakatobi.com). I recognize I am very fortunate to be able to afford the "luxury" of this resort in particular...it's definitely not affordable for all, and whether it is a "save up for years for a once-in-a-lifetime trip there," well, that is up to...

    Wakatobi info please

I just returned from 10 days at Wakatobi and am pleased to report they are still one of the best dive resorts in the world (IMHO). Everything we experienced during our initial trip in 2019 was similar or better this time, as the shut down time allowed the resort to update and repair a few...

GoPro 11 or DJI Osmo A3?

FWI FWIW, I've used GoPros (with red filters) on a lot of dives (my current one is the Hero9), and while it works fine, if I were in need of a new underwater "action cam," I would try out the DJI one. I use their drones and think an action cam by them could be really good. No first hand...

    Canister for PLB

I like that one. Too bad I don't have a need for it now. :)

    Canister for PLB

I bought this one (to replace the large battery canister I had been using that's posted somewhere in this thread) and it has worked well for me so far.

we're all friends here... let's talk p valves and sensitive bits...

It's not a viscosity issue. It's because the duckbill valve at the end of the line hasn't been used since the last pee, so unless you're diving super frequently (most aren't), opening that valve with air the first time is going to take a bit more effort than doing it on the surface with liquid...

:thumb: I route up and over, but I also use some HyTape to tape down (to my stomach) the area where the hose attaches to the QD fitting and about an inch or two up from there. That helps me keep the area prone to kinking, kink free.

Also, even on balanced valves, you should be "pre-loading" the suit hose anyway, either by peeing on land before getting in the water, or by using a squeeze bottle to shoot water through the suit hose before you close up the suit. That'll eliminate the backpressure on an initial underwater...

I was able to get in two cold water (52 deg F) dives this morning and tried for the first time, the turtle method (I guess that's what we're calling it thanks to my "visual" described a few pages back - LOL) for cath donning. It took three cath-donning tries to get it right with my anatomy and...

    Wakatobi info please

Yeah, the private guide comes with the Villas, but it's a separate option/cost with the bungalows. When I priced it out for our first trip, it was basically an even split whether you stayed in a Villa, or stayed in a bungalow and added the PD.

    Wakatobi info please

Luckily I'll get to report back to you about "recent" experiences in a couple of months. As for the other things, I didn't experience any of it. Bugs are a part of the tropics, so you should be prepared anyway. I find Cactus Juice works great for me. The water was amazing and I didn't see...

The only "skin prep" I do is I shower, and then I put on my cath right after I'm dried off. That prevents (in my case I guess) any skin oils from accumulating before adhering the cath to your parts. I've done this first thing in the morning even if I don't dive until the afternoon and it works...
