Having done hundreds of dives in the Maldives, I highly recommend having your own reef hook. The currents can get pretty strong, especially in the channels during shark dives. The rental price on most boats is about the same as buying one.
That sucks! I hope they’re able to extend your trip or otherwise make up for the 2 days of diving you’ll miss. How can they have not known about the positive case before you all flew down to Gan??
The Carpe Vita used to offer four dives per day. My first few trips with them had four each day, once in a while five if we did a night dive. They switched to three per day a few years ago.
I have a very basic setup using the stock Olympus housing and a YS-01 strobe. I shoot TTL, and while I’m far from an expert photographer, enough of my shots come out fine for sharing with friends/family or for printing that I keep trying. :)
Great trip report! I did two weeks on the Vita in Feb, and now wish I’d written a live trip report while on the boat. Your approach is much better than my trying to piece it all together afterwards.
Is this still for sale or have you sold it to Leisure Pro yet? Since I'm not a wealthy person with money to burn or a clueless newbie, I’m interested for the right price.
I've been on the Carpe Vita each of the past three summers. It's a great boat with a fantastic crew. The diving is excellent, and you'll see everything from the smallest critters to mantas, sharks, and whale sharks.
