Kona Honu and Big Island Divers are good options. Shore diving the harbor it is possible to see the tigers but you really have to pay attention to the boats and use a dive flag float. I also like the Two Step (Place of Refuge) shore dive as a shake out dive because it's fairly easy to navigate...
I can't find info on how it works for signing up as a single diver.
Someone referenced having to pay for two people (even as a single) and then looking and hoping for a roommate to share the costs?
I dive in a long 3mm and that works for me. The water temp is around 77 - 80 '. Look in to the Manta Night dive, it's an excellent dive that is in my personal top 5. The Manta dive is in Kona. Good snorkeling is at Kahaluu in Kona (for your kids) or Two-step in South Kona.
Waikoloa is also a...
I will be on Bonaire for the same time frame Nov 27th to Dec 11th and would like to go shore diving with ya'll. I am buddyless as well. OOops, double post
I'll be on Bonaire for that time frame and I am buddyless as well. I would like to organize some shore dives with ya'll when we get closer to the dates.
I've changed my mind and I am getting a goPro Hero 7 for myself for Christmas.
Then I will keep researching and get myself a new BCD for my birthday!! Yay. I have been searching for awhile and I am just going to stick with my current BCD and use a weight belt for now.
As far as the Manta dive... I loved the dive. The snorkel was good but the whole time I was thinking I would rather be under water and I felt warmer being underwater for the dive than I did floating on the surface waiting for the mantas. To be fair the dive had two mantas performing just for us...
Thanks for the quick reply, I am currently researching those two online.
It's a Christmas present for myself (and kind of for my husband because then he doesn't have to shop for me if I buy for myself).
For the Big Island: There are a lot of condos, none are very close to the Honokohau Boat harbour. The Dive ops will not pick you up at your hotel but they have Uber on the island now. I like Big Island Divers but most of the ops are quality.
You will need a rental car on each island to get...
For Maui consider staying at the Maui Hill or Maui Kamaole condos. The Maui Hill condo is directly across the street from the Kihea boat ramp. You can just walk down the hill and across the street to meet the boat to go to Molokini crater. BTW the boats leave really early in the morning like...
Aloha All. I am looking for a Jacket BCD that is not weight integrated and I am having a hard time. Everything seems to be back inflate/wing and most everything is weight integrated. I am old school and I like to hang at different angles to take pictures so I don't want those weight pockets...
Airlines: I would consider Alaska Airlines - their visa card gives you a companion fare for $125 - you pay for the first person and the second flies for $125.
Accommodations: my favourite is Maui Hill in Kihea (for Maui) it is within walking distance of the boat harbor for trips out to Molokini...
I think this is a really useful topic.
I recently had the chance to dive with my niece on her first dive after cert. One of the main things I told her is "you can thumb a dive for any reason, don't feel the need to dive to prove anything". I should have taken that advice myself when I was her...
