    Looking for suggestion for divemaster

One of the quickest ways to get "burned out" in an activity is to work at it as in a job. You are just beginning and luckily, in on of the best locations in the world. Get some basic training/experience, Advanced, Rescue, Nitrox and on up to Cavern Diving for the buoyancy training. Then after...

What's the craziest thing you ever found?

It was so long ago that I have forgotten exactly where. It was probably in the Boynton Beach area. We went out of there regularly and occasionally Jupiter. I ended up giving it to a friend who was more into spearfishing in the Tampa area. My guess is that this was at least 15 years ago.

Question Palau vs Maldives in 2024 liveaboard? I am confused.

Larger fish and sharks in Palau. I think I also saw my first Crocodile fish too. The crowded conditions that I've been reading about would have me avoid Maldives. Indonesia is always spectacular. We were at Wackatobe and did land for a week and then got on the boat for a week. The only...

Question Palau vs Maldives in 2024 liveaboard? I am confused.

I have been to both and would quickly go back to Palau before going back to Maldives. Everything that I've read lately is that Maldives is getting crowded wit lots of dive boats. Underwater life is also much better at Palau. Raja is also a serious site. Actually all three were great. My wife...

Found SeaLife Camera in Palm Beach - Is it yours?

Diving in Indonesia about 10 years ago, my wife lost a borrowed camera underwater. Upon surfacing, in the tender, we looked for about 30 minutes or so and finally gave up. Later that night, on the live aboard, someone saw the camera on the surface. It had managed to float back to the boat.

What's the craziest thing you ever found?

Two interesting things in the Florida Keys one VERY HOT SUMMER DAY: A brand new 46" cocked and loaded teak spear gun, laying on the bottom in about 30 feet of water. WATER TEMP WAS AT LEAST IN HIGH 80's. 2. Not far from the spear gun, a new weight belt with 32 pounds of lead. I gave the gun...

    Hole in 7 mm wetsuit

Several different neoprene glues available. I use Aquaseal and it works. If the hole is too large, patch inside and out with neoprene. Store unused Aquaseal in your freezer.

“Duty of Care” when taking others on personal vessel, to dive

If your friends "throw in" for gas, you are in a very gray area. Best check to make sure. Also check your insurance too.

DOWN CURRENTS -Any with true real-life experience?

Yes, straight through it. It was a while ago and that is what I remember. I did not try to fight it. The same as a rip current at the beach.

DOWN CURRENTS -Any with true real-life experience?

I have not read most of the comments, but it happened to several of us a few years ago. The first sign was swirling bubbles and popping of the ears. It happened very quickly and the key for me to get out was to quickly swim perpendicular to the current or horizonal. I was quickly out but rose...

Tingling fingers 40 hours after last dive

Your age? Makes me think that you might have touched something or got bit by something toxic. Is there any skin damage? I dive regularly in an aquarium environment and somehow got infected by what is called a Mycobacterium marinum Infection that is very toxic and very hard to diagnose. My...

    Bcd filled with water

They can come in handy for a new diver as a way to hold their bottle of air and diver safety tools. Most of the time, more comfortable than not.

    Bcd filled with water

Do not detach your inflator hose unless you know ahead of time that it will be easy to reattach. Some like Scuba Pro are difficult and not something I'd recommend. Just know ahead of time.

Dive Pristine Reefs in Cuba with All Star Avalon

Cuba was one of the last, if not the last area where there was no bleaching in the Caribbean. That is why we went there the previous year and then out last trip.

Question Tell Me Where to Live in Florida

The best diving in Florida is the east coast, Jupiter south. Tampa is very military friendly with MacDill near by. Jupiter Beach is about 3 hours away by car. We used to go over early Saturday morning make a few dives, spend the night and dive Sunday morning. Drive back to Tampa. My suggestion...

How old do you plan to dive til?

Every live aboard (many) that we have been on, over the years, will assist you with getting your gear back on the boat if climbing aboard with it is too difficult. Just always ask before signing up for the trip. Tip appropriately as they work hard to do this. Some live aboards make this...

Dive Pristine Reefs in Cuba with All Star Avalon

I wish the news were better, but I haven't heard otherwise. The other disappointment was that once the big boat was anchored, it did not move until it was time to go home.

How old do you plan to dive til?

Damn, a bunch of old divers ! A lot from the Baby Boomer generation and fueled by WW2, Mike Nelson and Sea Hunt. I know that I was. Now at 73, I've slowed down some, but still enjoy our global live aboard trips. I still dive regularly as a volunteer at the local aquarium twice a week and I'm...
