I was just making a joke about Obamma.. I think it's funny the power went out while he was here.. How embarassing! Since he's from Hawaii I'm sure he understands.. The thing I don't understand is why they don't bury the vital power lines? High winds knock them down all the time and as you said...
Really quickly here are three from some really fun dives I did in 2008:
The White Tip Shark Nest off Molokini Reef's End
A Baby Manta Passing by Brad and I while on Inspiration rebreathers
Shortnose Mantis Shrimp with Eggs off the 5 Graves Patch reef
Sorry, here is a 4th one:
Grey Reef...
Since it's the end of the year, maybe we can share or favorite photos from 2008?
Loose rules: Post up to 3 photos or videos which have to be taken somewhere in Hawaii during 2008. If you have something from another time and really like it, why not post it! :)
Let's share some of the beautiful...
The Lobe coral is straight out in front of the beach. I've been all over the site. As I said I'd only dive the site when it's very flat. The vis is excellent then. Otherwise it's not a fun dive.
There is coral from 10 feet all the way to the sandy bottom at 40 feet. At low tide you have to swim around the huge Lobe coral heads... I guess you missed them... A few swim throughs... Maybe you need to dive it again ... You sure you know where the dive site is?
How do you make a Hawaiian Power Outage? Just add wind or rain!
Maybe Barack will step in and fix our feeble utility companies! I think he may be in the dark with you!

I would say diving with B&B Scuba would be a great choice for you and your family. They welcome divers of all levels and with multiple DM's/Instructors, you can do a dive suitable to your profile while someone else can do something more advanced. Your kids can snorkel from the boat as well if...
You definitely need strobes... Lots of stuff is hiding in cracks and you'll never get any shots without strobes... Also a focus light would help... I wouldn't waste any money on Magic Filters... They are no substitute for strobes... I used mine on 2 dives, never to use again. Buy a strobe or...
I think more people are diving so there are more accidents. Just like driving, lots of people who are less capable are in the water since the sport is so much more of an industry with lots of marketing power (PADI). I'll bet a lot more people are dying on the golf course these days too...

Tulamben isn't muck diving at all. They have about 5-7 dive sites you can get to by foot or "boat" which are excellent. Menjangan is a really awesome spot to dive... I had the more epic dives at Menjangan but I really enjoyed Tulamben! I'd probably go for Menjangan if I only had 2 days...

You probably want to increase the shutter speed for macro... Faster shutter speed will give you blacker backgrounds. I'd shoot a few dives in auto to get used to the camera, then I'd switch to manual and leave it there... Try to shoot one style at a time and focus on the settings. What I mean is...
If the dive op is doing deep dives as a business, why not do it with the right gas and require the proper training for the dives? I think for the general public it's definitely upping the risk doing deep air dives.. I hope they have a chamber nearby! I think the clients would have a far better...
Mimpi has a resort in Tulamben and one right at the harbor closest to Menjangan.

They seem to have some reasonable packages. It's probably worth it not to have to drive over to the harbor from Sinaraja or Lovina....
