Late to this party and on all of the liveaboards I have been on, dives were each different experiences and, as mentioned, there was little time for boredom if you do most or all of the dives.
However, if you want to guarantee no downtime, bring an underwater camera. Between setting it up for...
I have been on the Dewi in RA for 12 nights and would highly recommend. It is a very large boat vs most liveaboards. At times, it was tough to tell we were on a boat but never felt like it was cumbersome. That said, we never had a problem getting into dive sites because they use skiffs and we...
Thanks for the report. I also love that area of the world and will have to travel out there given your comments about how many liveaboard now inhabit RA. Your photos reminded how nice the outdoor showers are to have.
No cell service is a positive to me. Nice to get away from the world. :)
Please note I suggested the fan because you would have it if you need it. To reiterate, my own overwater bungalow experience in Tahiti was it was cool enough with just ceiling fans and in fact did not have AC and further just being a bungalow on the beach started to make a big enough...
The story below describes a New Zealand fisherman who fell out of his boat and was rescued 23 hours later because he was able to get the attention of fisherman using the sun reflected off his watch.
Signaling with a mirror is not a revelation and our hobby has lots of devices/colored stuff to...
First Landing Resort is in that area and has a dive shop.
We also went with some other resorts on the nearby islands like Musket Cove but not sure how to get there. from boat
Cannot comment on the time of year but have been to places 1 and 2. Both good. Palau is beautiful above water, is maybe easier diving as it tends to be mainly wall diving and drift diving with lots of historical things to see above water, while Solomons is good and has varied diving and...
Thanks for the report. I also love the Indonesian area and boats for diving and culture.
The food issue sounds annoying since you've got no other choice for food. I also like the opportunity to eat the local food, but the fact that you were in Egypt and the better food was hot dogs and pizza...
I've stayed at First Landing several times and always had a good experience. As in very nice staff, rooms were good and food was good. I've never went diving from there, I've always stayed on the way to another experience or going home. Lots of Australians (I assume) went there and rugby...
I'd agree it is pretty unlikely you would happen to catch a boat at the time you are in those locations, particularly a boat you would want to be on. Further, getting to those locations takes considerable time and expense, particularly Raja Ampat. I could also imagine how terrible it would be...
Thanks for the report. I'm wondering if you took those photos on a cellphone or just shared them through it?
Bonnie = Bonine :) (sorry if Bonnie was intentional)
I've also successfully used Bonine though if you never feel seasick, is that because the medicine works or because you don't get...
Damn, I'm in the highest bracket.
Thanks for that info. I'm still going through it but very enlightening. I have never reviewed such document.
Highly encourage others to review as well, particularly the case studies. A few new thoughts while confirming some others.
Biotech Diver (thanks) summarized most of my reasoning well, and while agreed that the experience of divers there would skew towards higher risk, few actually die there. Before one guy in June 2023, it was a number of years, then again years before that, which seems pretty good for so many...
Still shocked to read this happened at Breakwater. Many people in this area have gotten their basic certifications here. The location and conditions are relatively benign, so hard to imagine it happening there. However, diver health plays a part so perhaps that was involved here. RIP

It sounds like he might have been diving alone to have lost his boat but it mentions a lost diver alert too so not clear.
First comment on the article is about carrying a locator beacon.
Takeaway is to wave your arms a lot...
Late to this party, but I'll add I also have done multiple liveaboards solo.
Generally have a great experience and never felt isolated or treated as a third wheel.
The boats I have done usually have two skiffs but otherwise not assigned any particular partner. I just stick around the general...
I haven't been to that area. One benefit I like about being on liveaboards is it is usually much cooler (and no mosquitos) than being on land in the same area. It was still pretty hot on the boat? Your being from the heat of Austin TX makes think it must have been pretty hot then.
Money...
