The way I practice is that I run tables for a particular dive and then go to my local quarry, stay shallow, and then run that exact profile. That way you can keep you computers setup like you normally would, but would be following the tables that you wrote down.
I have a wool glove liner underneath a pair of light gloves I got in Iceland a few years back. It is the warmest setup that I have used. I normally do anywhere up to 90+ minutes in the winter time diving. Between the wool liner and the light outer glove, the whole system cost me probably $70.
I dive the BM Optima and have no real complaints about the unit. I chose it due to the number of Optima divers that are around my area and there is a good instructor local to me. Most everyone I dive with that is on a rebreather dives an Optima and we share spares amongst each other when the...
My normal drive time to the dive site is around 2 hours and have not had any issues sorb. I do sit my unit in the back seat and strap it down. I have also packed the scrubber the day before driving 8 hours to the big water and have not had any issues either.
There are things that the Dive Talk guys say/promote that are unpopular with a lot of people.
If you are thinking about starting your technical diving journey I would recommend finding some local tech divers and pick their brains. Talk to them about gear configs and what the local scene looks...
I started diving a drysuit 5 years ago and it is my go to all year. Big thing with a drysuit is that you get one that fits you properly and does not limit your mobility.
Since you have not dove a drysuit before I would do the primer. Then figure out what configuration you are wanting to dive...
I went with the Optima mainly because the people I know diving breathers are diving the Optima. It is nice whenever everyone on the boat has the same unit and something breaks. I had my controller flood right before a trip and was able to borrow one from my buddy and did not lose out.
In my...
I am in between Dayton and Cincy. As for Cincy shops I would recommend Cincinnati Scuba and Aquatics and Scuba Unlimited. I do not have much experience with Columbus shops, but Aquatic Adventures has always treated me well.
I run transmitters on both my o2 and dil and like being able to keep track of my o2 and dil usage. By tracking it in my excel sheet I can see different trends in my usage when looked at along side my profile. It also has helped whenever my drysuit inflator decided to grenade an o-ring and slowly...
I go by 2 strikes and I am done. Whether that would be a leaky o-ring, hose failure, any issue on my breather, or just not feeling it. I called a dive last year in perfect conditions because I wanted to the Arthur Anderson go by.
There is nothing in the water that can't wait.
I would second a ring system for wrist seals. I have the quarter turn Si-Tech ones and like them and have not had any issues with them. My wife on the other hand does not like them because of the size of them, she can't get her hands around it to lock the glove in place. She got Kubi's on her...
When I am practicing deco ascents I create a deco schedule based on a dive I want to do and follow it with focus on holding the shallow stops without variation in my depth. I do not go into deco if I am practicing deco ascents, just in case something were to go pear shaped you are not actually...
Most don't take the time to trim them out or do not know how to properly sidemount tanks. During my ccr class my instructor spent the better half of a day to make sure that our bailouts were streamlined.
Did you have any sinus issues prior or after diving? I had some issues equalizing on a dive this year after dealing with some sinus issues. Came up and both ears were very muffled. It corrected itself within a day or so, but that is something to think about as well.
If my LP tanks come back to me at 2400 or 2600 I do not consider them "full" even though they are at their rated pressure. My local shop normally fills to between 3600 to 3800, they would fill higher but boosting O2 that high can lead to some explosive habits and we don't want that.
Question about the transmitter location.
Do the transmitters not fit when screwed directly into the first stage? With them screwed directly into the first stage you get rid of the air spool failure point.
I have the older grey and new swift transmitter on my Optima. I do lose connectivity...
