Did you do a Discover Scuba?

No discover scuba for me. I was convinced I'd like diving, went on a holiday dedicated to learning, and found out I loved it

Building a free online diving log - need input

The problem with using google maps as a starting point is that you tend to get a lot of clutter, or unclarity. Is the site now already on, or is that the site next to it. Should I make another or use the existing, etc. At least in my experience. I find googlemaps fine for finding directions but...

Building a free online diving log - need input

That looks quite funky. Would the buddies you add be like your friends on Facebook? In other words, are you setting this up to be a social media of sorts? ---------- Post Merged at 09:13 AM ---------- Previous Post was at 09:11 AM ---------- Then you could have categories for them as well...

This looks like it's going to be fun

Even if you don't contribute, you'll get to dive the location, I imagine. For me, going to Portugal is closer than most diving locations, and 4 such large wrecks should be very cool to dive on. I just hope that local schools don't start dropping newbies into those wrecks. It's one thing to do...

This looks like it's going to be fun

Why contribute - Ocean Revival Soon they'll be sinking the ships. Looks like they're hand-building a dive location from scratch, big enough to really draw in the crowds.

Dive Computer or Tables - which is safer for a newer diver?

Again, I would suggest the Suunto Vyper.

Getting a 5mm wetsuit on without it taking forever?

+1 for the plastic bag. It works perfectly, and you don't leave a trail of chemicals in the ocean.

    Yes, another wetsuit fit post

Probably too tight! Having said that, I originally thought my Scubapro was very tight. But it did improve when submerged, I flip a few centimeters of the arm-seal around which helps with the tingles, and now (after a couple dozen dives in it) I wouldn't change a thing. Neoprene does stretch...

Easy! The money I spent learning to dive :D

Dive Computer or Tables - which is safer for a newer diver?

First thing I bought was a mask (plus snorkel, but I don't use that anymore), followed by a suit + fins. The suit is the big one for me, when it comes to 'personal'. A rented suit is full of rented pee :shocked2:

Neat Little Tricks Are Good to Know

I read a lot but not all, so if this one was already mentioned... well it's a good enough tip for two mentions :D Use a small plastic bag around your foot to more easily don a wet wetsuit (or a dry wetsuit, for that matter). It really makes a huge difference.

Dive Computer or Tables - which is safer for a newer diver?

I don't think using a computer needs to detract from planning a dive. You should know to what depth your planning to go, how long you plan on staying there, and what your turn pressure is, whether you use a computer or tables.

Dive Computer or Tables - which is safer for a newer diver?

I learned to dive when computers were still an oddity mostly, and so obviously used tables all the time. Then when I got back into diving about 10 years later, computers were everywhere and it was assumed you used one on the trips I went on. I have to say that I love the extra dive time you get...

    Problems clearing with a hood

Thanks for all the tips; I'm glad it's a minor issue (well, solution-wise anyway). Punching a hole through the hood might be a good tip for after I buy one. Not sure the dive center where I was renting the thing would have appreciated that though :D

    Problems clearing with a hood

I was diving with a rented wetsuit a couple of weeks ago. It was a suit with attached hood, which I welcomed because the water wasn't the warmest (about 18 or 19 C). But I had problems clearing on my first 2 dives with that set-up, something I normally don't have. I was told this is a common...

A total noob question that I should know the answer too but...

I was out diving recently with a dive school that had the 'no safety stop' approach in case of a lost buddy. I kinda think that makes sense. Your buddy could be on the surface in trouble, and you'd be doing an _optional_ safety procedure below instead of finding and helping them. At least...

    Visibility

It varied a lot by weather and currents. But we had pretty lively seas most of the time. apart from the sometimes murky and choppy conditions, we had some pretty cool dives. We didn't see a lot of colorful stuff, but numerous large stingrays, butterfly rays and several angelsharks.
