Where to go: Mexico in July? Isla Mujeres? Baja North or South?

If you want diving, I agree that Isla is very limited. Cozumel is the place to go . Lots of options. Primarily drift dives. You might like cenote diving on the mainland, south of Playa del Carmen. You can stay on Coz and take the ferry across to do cenotes as a day trip, or relocate to the mainland.

    Bonaire Dive Shop Rec's

This thread seems to have morphed into a general discussion of BON diving, so here goes: Just back from our most recent trip to BON. In the past we have stayed at Capt Don's (won't go back), Buddy (fine), Harbor Village (outstanding). This time we rented a VRBO near Windsock (also outstanding)...

    Underwater photography course recommendations

My 2 cents: The recommended books are great, but no substitute for time shooting underwater. Another instructor to consider is Cathy Church at Sunset House, Grand Cayman. I would repeat and summarize the above comments on technique as: get low, get close, get as much light as you can on the...

New Norte Today 28JAN- Thursday 01FEB

Its unfortunate that COZ dive ops can't organize a consistent solution to Nortes closing the west side port. Yes, there are some ops who will go east, but capacity is limited at best. And the east side looks like it has some promising shore dives as well as boat accessible sites. The last winter...

Marelux housing for Sony A7R III

I don't know Marelux, but I can suggest two other housings you might consider. I have used the Sea and Sea housing for the A7R3 for several years and have been very happy with it, and my buddy shoots a Nikon in an Ikelite housing. Both housings have held up well.

    Sony A7 III MWL-1 setup

There are several companies making adapters to use Nikon (or Canon) lenses on the SONY E mount. Just search on B and H or another site for a list. My own experience shooting Canon lenses on SONY is that image quality can be super, but AF is slower than with native SONY glass. One other concern...

Upgrading - Sony A7RV or Alternatives?

For wide angle I shoot Canon 15 mm f2.8 on mc11 adapter in dome port. SONY underwater WA lens choices are varied and not as much of a consensus choice as is the 90 for macro. You might want to check out Alex Mustard’s YouTube vids. He recently adopted the A7Rv after years of shooting Nikon.

Upgrading - Sony A7RV or Alternatives?

I shoot A7 R3 in Sea and Sea housing. Sony 90 mm macro is the lens u want. Friends also use Ikelite housing at a much cheaper price point. Personally, I don’t see Nauticam as good value. Save money for good strobes. Smaller form factor of other camera bodies becomes nonfactor when you put...

Backplate and wing for a new diver?

I dive a BP/W and feel more streamlined in the water. That being said, I have done a lot of pool and OW training in a BCD as well as an occasional vacation rental. Most divers would find either one more than adequate. The best choice is always to rent or borrow one if you can.

Active Divers over the age of 50

Another way to think about it is: what do we want out of diving? At a younger (more fit) age, we might be testing ourselves. There's no dive too cold, too dark, too deep that I can't handle. Having survived that, I'm now at the stage of "no drama". I want to see the reef, take some photos, enjoy...

Active Divers over the age of 50

Its not age per se that is the issue, its health, fitness and having or making time to dive. My usual group of 4 are all retired, but active in one way or another. Two of us have Assistant Instructor ratings, and the two women have roughly twice as many dives as we do. The guys often help carry...

Is it safe for me to fly? I really need to get home.

The guidelines are just that: guidelines for somewhat standardized conditions. Real life has more variables, and some folks have been okay with shorter surface intervals, and some have gotten bent when seemingly well within the guidelines. What is your metabolism like, how hydrated have you...

Wide angle and macro in the same dive

Great vid! Thanks for sharing. The 28-60 is not one of the sharpest or brightest lenses, but it seems it was more than adequate.

Question climbing ladder with big housing

In “ moderate” seas I’ll try to grab on to some part of ladder with left hand, kick up with fins and hand the housing lanyard to a waiting mate. Hopefully I remembered to unclip the housing tether from my chest d ring. Always exciting when I forget. If the seas are more than say 3 feet this is...
