    Divevolk Seatouch housing teardown

I've seen a fair amount of speculation about what's "inside" the Divevolk housing; since I have a dead one (see my post about Divevolk's excellent customer service for background) I thought I'd take it apart and post some pictures and comments. I didn't knock the hinge pin out to remove the...

    Minimum training for urchin collecting?

This -- but for everybody; this is just the onboarding process regardless of who you are. New participants need to do a ride-along, whether they are zero-to-hero or Dr. Bill -- if they haven't done this before, they go along as an observer/observee/helper for a dive. Where it gets potentially...

Question Is DIVEVOLK SeaTouch 4 MAX PLUS housing compatible with SeaLife tray?

It’s all the same housing, just different tray inserts.* *IIRC they made the “plus” because the iPhone 16 was just a hair too thick for the non-plus. Check first, but I think the 15 might fit the non-plus, so you might be able to score one cheap from an upgrader.

PLB housing question and also opinion on them.

Same as your grommet idea, but simpler: Make a bungee loop, girth hitch it through the plastic ring. Pull it over/around the bottom to secure. If the pouch is on a belt/strap, it can’t climb up past the belt. (If not, I still don’t think it will; the bungee will tend to keep the Velcro* in...

iPhone 15 into 14 adapter for Divevolk?

Go to their support page (Technical Supports: SeaTouch Resources & Downloads), open the housing list for the 4 Max, and find the listings for DAD-259 and DAD-260. Note that they provide the STL files for all their trays, so if one is not available, you can print it (or have someone print it...

Question Is DIVEVOLK SeaTouch 4 MAX PLUS housing compatible with SeaLife tray?

The regular housing requires the expansion clamp to add a threaded hole; the “platinum” housing has one inherently. (Still might not fit your tray, as it is pretty wide.) Not to sound like an apologist, but: it’s same or smaller in most dimensions than the competitive housings, and lighter...

PLB housing question and also opinion on them.

This was quick and dirty, but using AL6061, 2mm wall thickness and no added ribs etc., at 10ATM the maximum wall deflection is 0.3858mm. Now, depending on the sealing area design, that could be enough to cause issues... but deflection at that area where I already built it up shows as only 0.090mm.

PLB housing question and also opinion on them.

For sure. On the other hand, consider most acrylic camera cases, the InReach case, smartphone cases from many mfr’s, etc. Round distributes stress better — but aluminium is tough, especially the 5000s (e.g. 5083), and ribs can do a lot. Yeah, I think that’s actually the biggest challenge...

PLB housing question and also opinion on them.

Sometimes the only way to stop the voices is to do the sketch. Minimum interior space for my PLB-375+ (without trying to make it really conformal): I didn't put any work into the actual sealing (o ring, etc.) or other features (probably wants stiffening ribs on the flat faces, needs a tether...

PLB housing question and also opinion on them.

Well... the Nautilus is just VHF AIS, really; it just doesn't support voice. Sorry; I looked for the DiveRite pouch yesterday and I think it's long out of production. This (https://www.aliexpress.us/item/3256805739554465.html - archived) looks pretty close, though, if you added a better...

:-) That's actually my picture from the other thread we're both in; I told @Jaan he could post it. Really, I was responding to your comment about a VHF -- that page has a picture of a Horizon unit fitting easily.

Check out @Jaan 's FAQ and fit pages at FAQ - DRYFOB and Attachment and Usage Tips from DRYFOB Customers - DRYFOB that list the Horizon HX40 -- though I'd prefer one that had DSC.

Dry Fob XL and PLB and ?

I have a slightly older model, the same whistle and mirror as @NW Dive Dawg , and a smallish piece of space blanket (about 1ft x 3ft, iirc) that I folded up and shrinkwrapped using a food sealer. The space blanket is mylar silver on one side and orange on the other, so my theory is that it's...

Failed ACR ResQLink. Looking for forensics

In case anyone stumbles across this in the future: the older ACR ResQLink+ (PLB-375+) has two clearly visible screws on the back. (Not that I recommend servicing it yourself, but FYI.)

Not used used, but carried; several of the liveaboards I've been on issue them to all divers. Love the compact-ness; wish a PLB maker would find enough market. https://itnerd.blog/2025/01/02/canadian-get-held-by-indian-authorities-for-carrying-a-garmin-inreach-satellite-communication-device/...

DryFob XL: Affordable Canister for PLB

I’m sorry to say I don’t see it in the current catalog, but I have an old Dive Rite pocket that fits your description perfectly, including a side-release buckle. (I also have a bungee loop in there, so I’m not completely dependent on it staying shut.). I suspect it was originally sold as a mask...

Diversity, always. Select for different use cases, different failure modes, etc. I have a PLB, and wife will be getting an InReach (with service via Protegear). Just make sure you cross-train regularly.

If you go down this road, please keep us posted; I have a ResQLink and a DryFob; works fine, but really bulky.
