Spools and Markers Left in place in Ginnie

I apologize but my buddy and I had to leave our jumps spools and markers in place in Ginnie on Tuesday. There are three jump spools in place going from Mainline to Rollercoaster, Rollercoaster to Short Cut, and Short cut to the Bats. They are bright yellow lines and two sets of markers labeled...

2024: view for primary/backup torches, and dive knife

That is awesome! (Epic story by the way!). I actually still have two SL4s and an even older SL6! My daughter uses them when she plays in the pool after dark They still work great! It amazes me looking at the light they put out and remembering when I thought they were super bright!!

    Cookie vs REM vs TEM

@steinbil this was the article I referenced earlier. It gives the clearest descriptions of line marking and jump protocols I have found written anywhere. It is written with Mexico Caves in mind, but it applies to Florida caves too (the author explains the differences)...

    Cookie vs REM vs TEM

Follow on question for those of you using REMs: When you tie in for jumps, do you still use the systems arrows (if present), or do you place a REM and tie into that instead? I used to do both depending on what was there at the jump, but I have since switched to placing a REM every time (away...

    Cookie vs REM vs TEM

I love my REMs. They are distinctive to me and I know I can follow them and pretty much ignore whatever else is in the cave because I am trusting the markers I have just put down. Plus since my REMs are not arrows, and are obviously not part of the system navigation markings, I am not risking...

Why not attach spool to DSMB before the dive?

Thanks for the photos! I have a large McMahon Reel I want to add bungee to like you have on your reel. That way I can try and keep them attached. No way that combo is fitting in a pocket though!

Why not attach spool to DSMB before the dive?

@Wibble could you attach another photo without the DSMB on the Reel showing how you threaded the bungee loop through the handle? Thanks!

Why not attach spool to DSMB before the dive?

Do you carry that clipped off or can you fit it in a pocket? And are the CO2 cartridges expensive / hard to replace?

Why not attach spool to DSMB before the dive?

What is in the pouch on the side?

Why not attach spool to DSMB before the dive?

No, I still use the traditional DSMB where you inflate it yourself at the bottom and send it up. I really like the idea of the crack bottle DSMBs, but I couldn't get over the issue of the water entering the bottle at the surface and slowly destroying the bottle. I agree with you on the ratchet...

    Dive reports with beach/weather conditions

@kcc6001 That's great they put so much effort into getting you onto a good spot. Sounds like a fun day!

Why not attach spool to DSMB before the dive?

I understand not wanting to get pulled up to the surface if the line jammed on your spool while deploying a DSMB, and I agree with not putting your entire finger through it, but what is the issue with the thumb tip and finger tip like explained previously? I thought this was how everyone used a...

How do you calculate when to turn when using a scooter on OC?

@Dsix36 thank you for asking this question. I have wondered about this for ages, and every time I asked someone I got a different answer!!! (Contemplating a DPV using OC in the future)

    BPW for 10 yo

When I taught my daughter how to dive in the pool I just bought a used XS small women's BC for her ($50). It did the job for the pool but was still big on her (she was 8). I didn't want to invest too much in case she didn't like it. (I quickly discovered she is part mermaid!) So knowing she was...

    Dive reports with beach/weather conditions

I went out last Sunday (5/25), from the South End of Venice Beach. Viz was about ten ft at best. Found some nice teeth around the concrete artificial reef boulders that have been dropped on the reef in that area. There was a surprising amount of fish life there too which was good to see.

Thanks! Although that is a shame no one is posting on here anymore. This was always a good place for updates.

    Dive reports with beach/weather conditions

How are the beaches looking right now for shark tooth diving? I'm planning on coming this Sunday for my daughter's first beach dives.

Info How Britain’s Secret Decoy Ships Outfoxed German U-Boats During World War I

That was really interesting, I'd never heard of the Q ships before. And the photos of the submarine showed it to be in really good condition. I bet it was an amazing dive.
