Jacket BCDs, BP/W and bouyancy question

I am amused by the passion stirred by these discussions. I own a back inflate for travel, a dive rite transplate for local or drive to dive single tank dive trips, and a hog harness and plate for my doubles, so I dive a lot of different configurations and enjoy them all, with a 3 mil, rental...

Buddies kept grabbing/pulling me to ascend faster than computer said was safe

AMEN, too many instructors let new open water students get by with really weak buoyancy and kicking skills(which can affect buoyancy). I agree with ascending too slow, I teach breath control and 30' per minute, never slower, for recreational open water diving.

    housing for D3200

Update, while I haven't taken any blue water trips to use the D3200, I love the camera, and housing. I look forward to shooting more macro with it.

AOW - mish mash of adventure dives?

It depends on the shop and the instructor, if you choose PPB, PADI doesn't require class and pool session, but I do. Navigation, besides, the required skills, natural navigation is stressed with the compass, what to look for, noting it and sun position. Dive planning and gas management is...

    Padi instructor complaint and suggestions

Normal? Not by any stretch of the imagination! Report this menace, it is this kind of ass clown that gives instructors a bad name. As has been said earlier, email PADI give your account including the name of the dive shop, instructor, and his his 6 digit number. There is classroom, confined...

Are the solo diver certifications any good?

Yes, self reliant is solo, the 3rd dive is done as a solo dive , provided the instructor approves of your redundant equipment. Or insurance companies, 1 quarry I dive at allows solo with certification, and another...no solo diving, stated reason insurance doesn't allow it.

    PADI master scuba diver rating

I tell open water students the real benefit to advanced open water is exposure to different types of diving, 5 dives with an instructor and building in the skill set they learn in open water. I had a student that I had for open water get taught AOW by another instructor, come up to me at the...

First time dry suit user questions

I wash mine right side out, dry it insideout, but if I use it on Saturday, and know I am diving it Sunday, I don't wash it until Sunday night, I wax the zipper Saturday night and hang it up. I do hang it up with the zipper closed. If your watch doesn't fit on the sleeve, put it on your console...

    Drop the freaking weights!

Amen, if you are properly weighted instead of over weighted you don't need to dump it all. I pull 1 pouch, and I have changed weighting enough to ascend and still control it.

Scuba diver dies after being found floating at Kurnell, NSW, Australia

With no quick release on the straps, the size of the wing, and the style of weight pouches, I would surmise that is an Aqualung Zuma. Aqualung flat out tells you this is a travel BCD, designed to be used with light wetsuits. Not designed or intended to be used with the weight required for...

    Drop the freaking weights!

Amen! Integrated weight punches are not hard to ditch...if you know how. If you are renting, and the bcd is weight integrated you have to make sure how the quick release works. I teach how to release integrated pouches and a weight belt in the pool. Better to make sure you do proper buoyancy...

    Entry level computer

The Suunto computers are considered very conservative, so it will give you a little les bottom tome. It was mentioned in an earlier post, I would make sure to get nitrox compatible. The Zoop is nitrox compatible and price pointed for a good computer at entry level price.

    Two issues while diving

I will parrot what others have said, make sure thence fits properly and snugly. Make sure everything cinched snugly, what I tell students is that you can wear the BCD loose and have the tank control you, or you can wear it snugly and control the tank.
