As @MB NZ says, theses volunteer conservation offers are just glorified holiday complexes, i.e. Coral Caye Conservation. To work seriously on marine conservation you need to have a relevant degree of, diving qualifications are irrelevant.

There is an easy answer to being asked to 'help' out. Inform the operator/captain there will be a US$2,500 fee per dive if you have to work. Never been asked twice.

A cuff-dumb is a different valve, much lower profile so it doesn't snag. Moving the auto-dumb to the wrist, could, create a snag hazard. As the lower arm has less free play inside the suit, I suggest you use a dedicated cuff-dumb, it will be more comfortable. If you’re having trouble dumbing...

Not true that shops sell fills at a profit, for some it is as a lost leader to get customers into the shop. After nearly 400 fills it’s around £13 a fill. But I don’t need to travel to a dive shop at 25ml each way. It is more convenient and I sometimes take it to dive sites and fill there.

I’m not impressed with the instructor student ratio. For us we can do 4, my preference is 2 students. Then a minimum of 4 pool (sheltered water) session before moving to open water. If the equipment isn’t maintained properly, I’d find another shop - it is your life support system.

Not all clubs are the same. Some are very technical oriented others single cylinder. Just go and talk to them to see what sort of diving they do. The BSAC Find a Club Tool.
